viper359 Posted October 18, 2015 #1 Posted October 18, 2015 Hello; I am currently running DSM 5.2, with 6 drives, 4 x 3tb and 2 x 5tb. Since my mobo that I use only has 6 SATA ports, I am thinking about adding a LSI 9201 or 9220 card. If I add it, do I have to do anything? Is it plug and play? I have 2 more 5TB drives I want to add. If I install the card, and connect all the current drives, and boot up, will everything work as it did before the card, or will I have to do rebuilding etc? I am hoping to just plug it in, put all the drives on, and start her up, working as it always has. Thanks
PnoT Posted October 19, 2015 #2 Posted October 19, 2015 You need to flash whatever card you want to use into IT mode so it's a basic HBA and if you attach your current drives to it and boot up you'll be fine. The worse case scenario is you'll have to do a migration and you can keep all your settings. Once you're up and running on the new HBA simply add your other drives into the mix and expand like normal.
viper359 Posted October 19, 2015 Author #3 Posted October 19, 2015 Excellent, I was really hoping it was going to be just that easy. Now to just read up on flashing it
viper359 Posted November 3, 2015 Author #4 Posted November 3, 2015 I can say it really was just plug and play. I plugged the 8x pcie card into the 16X port, plugged in forward breakout cables from the 9220 to all 8 drives. turned it on, booted right up and worked with no questions asked. Now expanding volume to 25TB
