htc2010 Posted September 13, 2015 #1 Posted September 13, 2015 Each month, my Xpenology box sends me an email laying out hard drive health. There is one attribute that I am unsure of: Drive Reconnect Count <---- Bad Sector Count Disk Re-Identification Count What exactly does a drive reconnect count indicate?
cstout Posted September 15, 2015 #2 Posted September 15, 2015 This is generally when the drive loses power and has to spin up again and reconnect. It can be due to a bad SATA/Power connection physically or it could be the board on the hard drive failing. I've seen other users who have had this issue and re-seating the cables fixed most users' reconnect issues...the rest had to replace their drives.
htc2010 Posted September 15, 2015 Author #3 Posted September 15, 2015 AH, I see, thank you! It just seemed odd how the periodicity of this error is so consistent! On my 411j, it was literally 1 disk always having 1 reconnect, every single month. It was so normal an occurence that I thought it was normal for disk 1 to behave this way! I will keep an eye on the disk and see how it goes. Thank you.
b0fh Posted September 16, 2015 #4 Posted September 16, 2015 I wonder if these might be historical counts read from the drive itself rather than periodic counts. Some of my drives show the same thing for disconnects every month. I just assumed they were historical.
