postdeals Posted July 1, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2013 I just bought 3 x 3TB WD Red drives ( raid 5 ). I am using this on my ESXi 5.1 I am planning to stick to VMDK method. My only question is if in the future I wanted to upgrade to new version of Synology can i just mount the drives to another VM and keep the data? I want to provide the most flexibility so what is the best and secure method so if the SYNOLOGY vm goes down i still don't loose data. What would you suggest so I can mount the VMDK to another Server and have access to my data. Any feedback will be appreciated. You can also private message me if you want. In general yes, drives are migratable, but reliable backup is still a must.
