Issue with expanding volume

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am hoping someone can help me out as I'm a noobie.

I recently purchased a HP Microserver Gen 8 and installed XPEnology.

I set it up with a 1TB hard drive. Everything is working well but I want to expand the volume with another 1TB hard drive.

I installed the hard drive but I can't expand my volume. The Manage button is greyed out.

Can anyone advise why I can't expand my volume?

Thanks NeoID,

I have tried your suggestion but still can't fix my issue.

My volume crashed and now I can't create new volume.

I have decided to restart all over again.

How do I format the drive that had xpenology installed?

I tried to reinstall but it still continues to boot up into my current system.

Did you select Install / Upgrade on the boot menu? After selecting that it shouldn't boot into DSM, but install the install menu.

Once booted use Synology Assistant or find.synology.com to reinstall.

I did but not sure if I'm doing right. I arrow down to install/upgrade then hit enter but it just boots up to DSM.

That doesn't sound right to me. If you want to start from scratch I recommend to follow this guide: http://idmedia.no/general/installing-or ... -or-later/

If you have a hard time to format the drives you could download Ubuntu Live CD from here: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

Boot it up, you don't have to install anything. Find the disk tool or gparted in the start menu and use that to format all drives.
