Beast Posted August 20, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 20, 2015 Hi guys, I am hoping someone can help me out as I'm a noobie. I recently purchased a HP Microserver Gen 8 and installed XPEnology. I set it up with a 1TB hard drive. Everything is working well but I want to expand the volume with another 1TB hard drive. I installed the hard drive but I can't expand my volume. The Manage button is greyed out. Can anyone advise why I can't expand my volume?

Beast Posted August 20, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted August 20, 2015 Check Here if you created an SHR disk https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowledg ... orials/492 Thanks for the link. It seems it should work as I am adding the same size hard drive to the existing one.
NeoID Posted August 21, 2015 Share #6 Posted August 21, 2015 I have had the same issue. I've made a post about it here if you are interested: http://idmedia.no/general/expand-volume ... esnt-want/
Beast Posted August 22, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted August 22, 2015 Thanks NeoID, I have tried your suggestion but still can't fix my issue. My volume crashed and now I can't create new volume. I have decided to restart all over again. How do I format the drive that had xpenology installed? I tried to reinstall but it still continues to boot up into my current system. Did you select Install / Upgrade on the boot menu? After selecting that it shouldn't boot into DSM, but install the install menu. Once booted use Synology Assistant or find.synology.com to reinstall. If you want to start from scratch I recommend to follow this guide: http://idmedia.no/general/installing-or ... -or-later/ If you have a hard time to format the drives you could download Ubuntu Live CD from here: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop Boot it up, you don't have to install anything. Find the disk tool or gparted in the start menu and use that to format all drives.
