UNSC-117 Posted July 26, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 26, 2015 So currently I boot my my bare metal system thry XP USB Image. The question I have is, does XPEnoboot boots without usb? and if it does how can i upgrade from XPENOLOGY to EPnoboot would my Hard drive pool get messed up? I currently have 5 drives in a pool on volume 1, when i installed the .pat i installed it on a separate hard drive assuming it installs on the hard drive that it was plugged in when installation occured. So basicaly my pool is separate from the DMS installation.
MarsManden Posted July 26, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 26, 2015 No, XPEnology boots from the USB stick - the software on the stick emulates the original ROM in a real Synology unit. Though some have managed to install the boot software on a harddrive (don't know if anyone has done it with XPEnoboot), I really don't see the point. Why use an entire harddrive instead of a cheap USB stick? DSM is installed on all harddisks in the system. In that case no matter which harddrive fails, the system is able to start. This is by design by Synology.
