rom70 Posted January 27, 2021 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2021 Hello, I come to you because I want to upgrade my NAS. I had a 4 disks NAS and I now want to go up to 9 disks (8HDD + 1 SSD) today and maybe 17 disks later (4*4RAID5 + SSD). I have a problem with my Asmedia 1061 PCI card who have 4 SATA port. DSM take 15 to 20mins to boot and It found only 1 HDD on the ASmedia card. I checked on a linux live, and it found all my drives. I then export a "dmesg" who show me the booting log (cf. attached document) and it seemes that dsm got that error : [ 5.194155] ata7.00: failed to read SCR 0 (Emask=0x40) then it tries multiples times and can't get further and finaly give up. It find then the disk 8 (who it's the 1 disk from the PCI card visible in DSM) on no sign of the other 2 disks. For information, my SataPortMap is 4444. I tried multiple solutions as I have at least 3 sata controlers (at least 2 on the motherboard + 1 PCI) but it change nothing. My motherboard is a Asus P5B with a 5th SATA port (originaly for RAID ans now use for SSD) I have 4GB of DDR2 533MHz 4 disks WD 1To on the motherboard 1 SSD on the raid port of the motherboard 4 disks seagate 1To on the PCI card (Everything is from recycling old PCs.) Does anywhone know anything about theses types of error ? Thanks in advance ! log boot dsm.txt

ASM1061+ASM1093 (asm1092 is a one to two port multiplier so i guess 1093 is the same but one to three ports) https://www.orico.cc/usmobile/product/detail/id/3898 in that case you will only be able to use the two ports of the 1061 as synology blocks port multiplier and as we dont have a custom kernel it can't be changed use a pcie 1x marvell 88se9215 based card instead and maybe 2x jmb585 based card in the pcie 16x slots? lsi sas2008 based pcie cards (8 port sata with sas to sata cable) are a option too (i prefer ahci for my builds) also keep in mind that that 12 is the max. for 3615/17 without manually tweaking the synoinfo.conf and when modding you will loos that change on bigger updates making the raid missing disks over 12 and will result in raid not starting or starting without redundancy - if that is new to you then start reading about it here in the forum
rom70 Posted January 29, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted January 29, 2021 (edited) Hello ! Thanks a lot ! Il y a 14 heures, IG-88 a dit : you log say's differently, yes, I may have change my sataportmap after, but same problem. Il y a 14 heures, IG-88 a dit : but you usually can leave with the default value Ok, I will let the default value for now on. Il y a 14 heures, IG-88 a dit : https://www.orico.cc/usmobile/product/detail/id/3898 You're right this is exactly the reference I have ! Il y a 14 heures, IG-88 a dit : in that case you will only be able to use the two ports of the 1061 as synology blocks port multiplier and as we dont have a custom kernel it can't be changed Ok, in that case I will buy an otherone as you say. Ok for the 12disks max, I will look into that before upgrading again, but it will maybe be 2 NAS of 8 disks each. Thanks again for all the informations.
