27JA Posted January 20, 2021 Share #1 Posted January 20, 2021 Hi all, I have successfully installed DSM on an asrock j5040-itx motherboard. I have 3 hdds, can I build a raid 5 using the onboard controllers? In other words,is it safe to build a software raid using the 2 port intel controller (using 2hdds) and the 2 port asmedia onboard controller (using the third hdd)? Thank you very much
jensmander Posted January 26, 2021 Share #2 Posted January 26, 2021 If all hdds are detected within DSM, yes. 3 drives are the minimum for RAID 5.
Gryllz Posted April 28, 2023 Share #3 Posted April 28, 2023 Hi, I am running 6 drivers which is I guess maximum for this MB and its possible lines. If remember correctly last two 2 sata ports I was adding are sharing 6Gbit troughput which is still higher than what drivers I use are capable so I am good. , Like it has been say if DSM recognize them... (I was selecting adapters carefully to have chance for better compatibility by reading all treads on this forum related to native hw installations)
