liukuohao Posted July 17, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 17, 2015 Hi All, This question is directed to those who are familiar with hard disk performance, in terms of read and write speed. As my subject concern, has anyone tried using ATA133 7200rpm IDE drives as storage, run together with modern SATA3 hard drives, meaning DSM is running on SHR setup? Is there any Read and Write performance drawback, when using IDE + SATA..... compares to only SATA drives? Thanks
martysport Posted July 20, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 20, 2015 I wouldn't keep them on the same SHR config as the sata. It would slow the sata down to ide speed. IDE are kinda old now, most likely would fail fairly quickly.
sbv3000 Posted July 20, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 20, 2015 another point is that IDE drivers may not be part of the boot image so drives attached to those ports may not show up in DSM, worth a test first?
jadie Posted July 20, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 20, 2015 IDE is limited to 133 MB/s transfer speed. So it should be fine for most non-ssd drives. As long as you don't blacklist IDE kernel module in isolinux, ide drivers should show up in DSM.
