IG-88 Posted December 14, 2020 Share #2 Posted December 14, 2020 (edited) i have not tried 7.0 yet but just a warning based on the "DSM_Developer_Guide_7_0_Beta.pdf" "... If your package is for DSM6 then you should have a DSM6 NAS. If your package is for DSM7 then you should have a DSM7 NAS.Package for DSM6 is not compatible with DSM7 ..." beside the fact that 7.0 is not working with 1.03b/1.04b loaders and people doing that update on xpenology will end with a non bootable system needing to downgrade manually or reinstall 6.x from scratch if anyone wants to peek then try it in VMM with virtual DSM 3 hours ago, advin said: Increased performance with SSD caching with the option for metadata pinning thats not even close to fast, if using the write log area for mdadm it is possible to just redo missing writes (usually not that many) and you are done, resyncing a raid that way takes seconds Edited December 14, 2020 by IG-
ladidaaa Posted February 5, 2021 Share #3 Posted February 5, 2021 Hello everybody, does anybody know if someone is working on a Bootloader for DSM7? I have not yet made up my decision between a ds920+ and a Xpenology based machine. i want to run Windows in an Virtual machine on this NAS, but the CPU in the ds920+ seems to be too weak for Win10. When do you think there will be a ds921+ or ds922+ ? Thanks a lot for your input!

IG-88 said this: If one is developed, we don't know when that might be available (apart from "after DSM7.0 full release"); what restrictions it might have or what hardware it might require. Based on previous major releases, Synology is likely to keep some level of support going for 6.x for a while.
IG-88 Posted February 5, 2021 Share #5 Posted February 5, 2021 at least jun still logs in here from time to time, the interpretation depends on your point of view synology usually delivers 5 years updates, i expect at least one year security updates to 6.2 if you look into the units not getting 7.0 and find one that hast not been on sale 5 years in q1/2022 that might be a hint that 6.2 will get two years or more there is nothing to expect before 7.0 is released and if things go well synology will have to release the kernel source sooner the they did with 6.2 (there is someone breathing down there neck and trying to remind them to be in compliance to the GPL - one of the reasons we got 6.2.3 kernel source lately)
