Gaza1994 Posted October 18, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2020 Hey guys, I've got a spare hp proliant microserver g7 N54l Firstly, will Xpenology work on the bare metal or would other NAS solution be a better fit? Secondly, Im planning on using this for NAS Storage (duhh) and to fire up a VM or 2 - from what ive read this is possible, but im sure you NAS gods can clear that up for me :) Look forward to hearing from you all! billat29 Posted October 19, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2020 Yes, DSM will work just fine on a bare metal N54L. Except that I think that Synology's Virtual Machine Manager might not work on its AMD processor and depending on your virtual machine requirements, you might prefer to run it all under ESXi. 1
Dfds Posted October 19, 2020 Share #3 Posted October 19, 2020 Synology’s VMM won’t work on the N54, if you want to run other vm’s you may want to run everything under esxi, although the N54’s cpu isn’t that great.

Thanks for the info guys! I'll stick to ESXi (currently have that on the box anyways) The VMs are just project boxes, so dont do a great deal anyways!
