NAS search failed on local network

Recommended Posts

Goodmorning everyone,
I'm trying to turn a desktop PC into NAS using XPEnology.
After creating the USB pen for booting I using the link http://find.synology.com, to search the NAS in my network (no internet connection).
The problem is that I can't find anything !!

I created a local network using a router which is not connected to the internet, could this be the problem?

Is an internet connection necessary or is it enough to put the PCs on the network?

These are the downloaded files:
boot: ds3615_6.2
DSM: DSM_DS3615xs_25426.pat

Thank you all.
Greetings.

Simple answer: if you try to use an external service (find.synology.com) with no internet access -> doesn’t work.

DSM needs a DHCP in your network. If your router supports this feature you should check it‘s DHCP leases after the loader has started.

As stated above, you can use the IP provided form the DHCP server log,

or you can use the "Synology Assistent" tool from your "normal" computer.

Could you give me the link to download "Synology Assistent"?
I would like to install a DS3615xs.

Are there any special settings to make in the "Synology Assistent" tool?

Thanks.

@Egnos You can download the one found here

or you can download the great toolkit provided by jensmander, wich includes the Syno Assistent.

The tool is easy to use, it will scan you local network, locating any "Synologys" and let you connect to it:

Note:

If the Synology Assistant cannot find your Synology NAS, you can try the following to fix this issue:

- Ensure the Synology NAS and your computer are connected to the same LAN.

- Remove or disable the firewall, especially Windows' built-in firewall, or antivirus software on your computer temporarily.

- Use an Ethernet cable to directly connect your computer and the Synology NAS without going through any network device.

After you successfully set up your Synology NAS, re-connect both computer and Synology NAS to the router.

Sometimes the Assistant needs a second run (hit the search button again if nothing could be found).

Eureka works!
I had to change Loader and accordingly DSM:

  • Loader: 1.02b
  • DSM Platform: DS3615xs

Now I am doing some tests to understand the reliability of the system.

Questions:
Is the Synology account indispensable?
What features are enabled with an account?

Thanks to everyone for the precious advices!!

you did not write about your hardware but if 1.02b work and 1.03b does not then it might be uefi/bios legacy problems, 1.03b does not support uefi

https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/13333-tutorialreference-6x-loaders-and-platforms/

and depending on your cpu 1.04b might be possible
