anichhatre Posted February 7, 2015 #1 Posted February 7, 2015 Hello Friends: I have my Xpenology diskstation DSM 5.1 working. Is it possible to connect it to LED TV using USB port?? Has anyone tried it before? Also which applications we can use to manage movie files? Thanks for your help. sent from Oneplus one
Schnapps Posted February 7, 2015 #2 Posted February 7, 2015 Configure VideoStation or Plex and use DLNA to stream multimedia files from your NAS. From the TV point of view, you just have to connect it to the same network (preferably with cable) and then select NAS as source
samy Posted February 7, 2015 #3 Posted February 7, 2015 I had wrote a tutorial on how to use DLNA server on Synology Nas with a LED Samsung TV if you want to have an idea on how it works. It was for a previous DSM version but it still the same woking idea with new DSM 5.1 . Your TV should have an Ethernet connection to have it working.
anichhatre Posted February 7, 2015 Author #4 Posted February 7, 2015 My TV LG42LN5400 does not have network port. That is why want to use USB to connect. sent from Oneplus one
samy Posted February 7, 2015 #5 Posted February 7, 2015 No possibility through usb. A simple solution could be using a hardware player like an appletv
CtrlAltDel Posted February 8, 2015 #6 Posted February 8, 2015 A Raspberry Pi would probably be the cheapest solution. You should be able to pick up one of the old ones easily now that they have released the Pi 2, which is also very cheap to buy and has much better performance for virtually the same low power consumption.
anichhatre Posted February 8, 2015 Author #7 Posted February 8, 2015 Thanks all for your inputs, I am thinking to buy android tv box M8 or Minix neo 8. Plz suggest if you know any better box. sent from Oneplus one
Zignature Posted February 8, 2015 #8 Posted February 8, 2015 Go for Minix Neo X8-H PLUS. It supports hardware decoding
anthonyuk Posted February 9, 2015 #9 Posted February 9, 2015 A simple low cost option is to run Plex on Synology and stream to a Chromecast. Quality is good but you need a smartphone or tablet to act as a remote. The phone/tablet are not used once streaming has started.
