HaywoodFloyd Posted January 29, 2015 #1 Posted January 29, 2015 Hey all, I have a bare metal install with 3612xs image and DSM 5.0-4493 I have the image for 3615xs and files for DSM 5.1-5022 but as wondering can I upgrade both the image and DSM? Thanks, Haywood
CtrlAltDel Posted January 30, 2015 #2 Posted January 30, 2015 Whenever you upgrade or downgrade you have to use matched pairs so the img/iso must match the pat image for the DSM/pat version that goes with each version of the bootloader. The XPEnoboot 3615xs bootloader can only be used with the 5.1 pat file for an upgrade to 5.1 so yes you need to use both together and you don't have a choice in the matter.
HaywoodFloyd Posted January 30, 2015 Author #3 Posted January 30, 2015 Thanks for the reply! Will I be able to keep my existing data when I change both the model and DSM version at the same time? Thanks again, Haywood
holybabel Posted January 30, 2015 #4 Posted January 30, 2015 When you use the upgrade option of the bootloader you can migrate keeping your data.
CtrlAltDel Posted January 30, 2015 #5 Posted January 30, 2015 If the installer doesn't give you the option to migrate on a system containing existing data there is a problem and your data will get over written if you proceed! The only way your data is safe (there is always a risk of losing some or all of it so backup first) is by migrating the system to a new version.
