Andy928 Posted January 10, 2013 #1 Posted January 10, 2013 1) Download archive from: http://yadi.sk/d/BvxkaDfm1SuIO 2) Unpack two files: synoboot.vdi and DSM_DS3612xs_2668.pat 3) Now, start the VirtualBox and check settings for "VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter".
sandule Posted January 18, 2013 #2 Posted January 18, 2013 For some reason my XPEnology VM keeps on turning off by itself. It doesn't give the Synology Assistant enough time to find it and install. Does anyone know why this happens? Cheers, Alex
mb51running Posted January 24, 2013 #3 Posted January 24, 2013 I found this very detailed tutorial installing XPEnology in Virtual Box. http://www.robvanhamersveld.nl/2013/01/ ... l-machine/
ZeroQI Posted January 26, 2013 #4 Posted January 26, 2013 http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=41&p=262#p262 Actually with the controller drivers in SynoBoot_3612xs_4.1++ it works, since i did it... I was surprised to say the lease... I thought i would indicate here it also works on VMware. Thanks again!!!
stuart_faust Posted February 12, 2013 #5 Posted February 12, 2013 keep getting this error message. ive got windows 8 x64 os and i5 cpu
stuart_faust Posted February 12, 2013 #6 Posted February 12, 2013 got past that error now , but cant get the synology assistant to find it.
stuart_faust Posted February 14, 2013 #7 Posted February 14, 2013 I can connect via its IP but it does not see it via the assistant. its is possible to set the virtual box's network IP statically without having to bridge?
Jakobsen Posted February 16, 2013 #8 Posted February 16, 2013 Thank you so much! Very good. Does this not support USB drives? or USB sticks?
stuart_faust Posted February 18, 2013 #9 Posted February 18, 2013 Managed to get it working , stupid windows firewall lol Has anyone got it working using a static IP address for the bridge connection. IE i need to have my host PC with a static IP but then have the virtual machine static also? And the synology static aswell.

dmark1 Posted March 11, 2013 #13 Posted March 11, 2013 got past that error now , but cant get the synology assistant to find it. How did you solve it? change your VM type to Debian 64bit. The synology software doesnt support 32bit O/S's.

Aytordj Posted March 18, 2013 #20 Posted March 18, 2013 You can upgrade from 4.1 to 4.2 using the same NAS disk created with virtualbox?
zeekworld Posted March 20, 2013 #22 Posted March 20, 2013 I successfully have Synology up and running on my VirtualBox. I've used XPEnology_DS3612xs_2668 for the installation. Now I am trying to upgrade to DS3612xs_3202-Repack and is not happening. How do I supposed to do the upgrade? Currently I have the IDE mounted with synoboot.vdi and a SATA Controller with HDD.vdi. What do I need to change to be able to upgrade to 3202? Any help would be great. Thanks Zeek
XPEH Posted March 20, 2013 #23 Posted March 20, 2013 You need a new synoboot.vdi (or .vmdk) with current version to boot. It replaces the one that you use now. After you boot your virtual machine with it, you can use assistant and update DSM (pat) that matches your synoboot. Your HDD will be updated to new version of DSM.
zeekworld Posted March 20, 2013 #24 Posted March 20, 2013 Well, I've tried the following file DS3612xs_3202-Repack.vdi, I replaced it by removing synoboot.vdi and when I boot I get the following message: GRUB Loading stage1.5. GRUB loading, please wait... Error 22 FYI: I created DS3612xs_3202-Repack.vdi with VirtualBox command line from DS3612xs_3202-Repack.img VboxManage convertfromraw DS3612xs_3202-Repack.img DS3612xs_3202-Repack.vdi
XPEH Posted March 20, 2013 #25 Posted March 20, 2013 Shutdown virtual machine and copy .vdi (it actualy DS3612xs_3202-Repack.vmdk) file again. It may got overwritten and corrupt by DSM installation. Make sure that file is still attached to IDE.
