szeldavid Posted May 14, 2020 #1 Posted May 14, 2020 (edited) Hi guys, I have a Dell R720 with two 10-core Xeons and 64GB RAM and I want to install DSM. Can Xpenology handle and use the full power of 20 cores total and 64GB RAM? I want to use this for VMs and as a NAS. Or I should forget the bare metal install because xpenology does not support that many cores Thank you! Edited May 14, 2020 by szeldavid Quote
cyberphoy Posted June 12, 2020 #3 Posted June 12, 2020 Just bought an R720 myself so I'd suggest maybe an Esxi install Quote
IG-88 Posted June 12, 2020 #4 Posted June 12, 2020 the best that could be done baremetal would be 16 cores with 3617, so esxi seems to be the most reasonable approach to use all cpu's the cpu can handle vt-d so it would be possible to hand down a whole controller to have a baremetal like vm (physical disks on an controller inside the vm, not virtual mappings or anything) Quote
