This guide will allow you to install Synology DSM 4528 with Update 2 This guide won't contain a text guide but instead just a "choose your path" video tutorial. Required Hardware USB Method 1 USB Drive Atleast 1 HDD DHCP set on your network (Usually will be) Another computer to manage Synology DSM Both systems on the same network (Intended Server and Second PC) ESXi Method 2 USB Drives Atleast 1 HDD for the DataStore Additional HDD's for RDM DHCP set on your network (Usually will be) Another computer to manage Synology DSM and ESXi Both systems on the same network (Intended Server and Second PC) Required Software and Files Files for both USB and ESXi Methods Synology DSM 4528 for DS3612xs Synology DSM 4528 Update 2 for DS3612xs Synology Assistant PuTTY Files for USB Method Win32DiskImager Synology DSM 4528 IMG (Thanks to XPEnology.nl) Files for ESXi Method Universal USB Installer Synology DSM 4528 VMDK (Thanks to XPEnology.nl) (Extract it with 7Zip) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I was able to upgrade from 4.3 3810 to 5.0 4528 Update 2 on a HP Proliant N54L microserver using USB stick (using hardware, and not use VMWare) and I didn't lose any data.
