DSM DSM 6.2.1 running on ESXi, how to power off from host?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I finally managed to get DSM running!

My server cannot be on 24/7, and it would be inconvenient to have to log into multiple web interfaces just to shut down the box. Is there any way to gracefully shutdown my DSM VM from ESXi?

Google doesn't seem to return much, if at all. Nor does the search function on the forums.

Thanks! :-)

Thanks! Who'd know such things for power control would be called that, eh?

Vmtools... sounds just like acpi or power or shut down when host tells you to..

But seriously, thank you. No sarcasm intended or implied here. I'd have no idea it would be called that. This should make life a lot easier.

Actually the package that is cross compiled to do this was authored by VMWare, is called vmtools and it is available on most guest OS’s.

I can understand the confusion if you are not familiar with it (but somehow familiar with the function).

No sarcasm here either. All good!
