As i'm currently running on 0.10 : Is it enough to just replace the 0.10 files with 0.11, or anything additional required for upgrading from 0.10 to 0.11?

you can just repalce the files, it will always compare whats on disk with wahts from usb and if there is a difference it will copy from usb to disk (dsm system) and use what comes from usb, so its easy to switch

Many thanks for your update, all works fine now with DSM 6.2.3 and your extras v0.11

Unfortunately WebDAV server from the package center failed to continue working. If I use https://mydomain.net:5006 it refuses to connect, saying server cannot be found in the net. It used to work fine with the same settings before on 6.2.2

you do realize that synology retracted 6.2.3 and only seems to offer it for x20+ (geminilake) systems and manual download

also the video station thing with hardware transcoding shows that there might be more things wrong in 6.2.3 then the universal search problem

i don't think a webdav package is related to drivers (and thats what we discuss here)

maybe you should consider downgrading and wait for a general release of 6.2.3?

i did use 6.2.3 for my new hardware and my real nas system but is don't need much of all the thing dsm can (possibly) do, i'm still using it as a data tank and anything else is optional (and yes i could use omv instead without noticing much)

After this, it promps me to install DSM and I see it only detected 1 Drive, which is what would happen if none of the Drives on the LSI Controller are detected.

And just in case it helps somehow, the dmesg log from booting with 0.10  (relevant stuff should start at  2.830538 i think) :

maybe you should consider downgrading and wait for a general release of 6.2.3?

I would better stay with this version. But thank you for your advice. 😉

By the way, the problem with webdav is in my windows computer, not in the DSM. WebDAV Server works well with the third party client

new version of 6.2.3-25426 released for a ton of models old and new. I installed it on my real 1815+ over the old 6.2.3 no issue, so I rebuilt my xpenology system DSM from scratch with it (didn't touch my boot USB) seems to have lost hw decode on my i3-8350k, similar to the i3-9100 others see. I am grateful to see that my LSI is still working (including SMART test) and my intel 10gigE is still working. I will have to try adding in the .11 extra /extra+ pack to my USB

I created a new boot USB w grub mods (like always) and the new 4 files on the second partition (extra.lzma (11), extra2.lzma (11) zimage (from 6.2.3.pat) and rd.gz (from 6.2.3.pat) and now my hw decode in plex works as expected and hoped. Thanks IG-88!! didn't break my 10GiGE nor my SATA/SAS... all looks great

I waited a bit and after 6.2.3 25426-0 PAT was available (today) I started the upgrade.

HP Gen 10 with 10gbit NIC and standalone NVME drive, DVD, and USB sound.

Upgrade from 6.2.2 extra918plus_v0.7_test -> 6.2.3 extra918plus_v0.11 was very easy:

  1. upgrade manually in UI (reboot)
  2. copy extras to USB drive in Windows and boot
  3. patch_LAN; activation patch (newest but not yet with this version, just add the ""6.2.3 25426-0"" string as last); libNVMEpatch (newest) patch and reboot

Super quick, no rufus / osfmount / imager,  lovely.

NVME standalone drive - didn't remove it before upgrade despite recommendation (but i don't use it as a cache), and didn't need to set up "md" logical drive after upgrade. Just patch. Same with 10gbit Aquantia NIC. On boot, server speaks "System started", pushbullet "NAS" custom "device" sends notification but it deleted the custom notification as a way of making sure i'm aware of restart via all possible ways. It also deleted the /root folder so will spend a lot of time to reconstruct my hacks.

bigger updates with ~250mb *.pat files more or less exchange the whole /dev/md0 content (the content of the hda1 file in the pat file is the new content that will end on /dev/md0)

Good to know.  I am now rsyncing these folders now (what a cheap small backup). Maybe mirroring boot drive would be helpful too.

I was scared to do "migration" instead of semibricking method because you say "In case of a "migration" the dsm installer will detect your former dsm installation and offer you to upgrade (migrate) the installation, usually you will loose plugins, but keep user/shares and network settings". I don't know what are "plugins" in DSM world but sounds scary. I hope you don't mean packages.

This version 6.2.3 didn't solve any problem so far - CloudStation/Drive chaos, Moments/Photos chaos, replicating homes still crashing although explicitely "fixed" recently.. Can't wair for DSM7!

i use the term  plugins sometimes instead of packages, the thing about loosing plugins is when updating from 6.x/6.0/6.1 to 6.2.x or doing cross migrations like 3615 to 918+

doing a "normal" 6.2.x to 6.2.3 should keep most packages working - there a some (pretty sure outside the coding guideline of synology) that write stuff to the system partition and dont handle updates, example is the powerbutton package, even when still present after update 6.2.2. to 6.2.3 you will have to uninstall ans install it to get the extensions and added driver back into the system

imho there is no difference when doing a semi brick or a migration, the migration scenario is meant to be safer as you keep your old boot device, dont change anything to the system and start with a fresh usb, that way you will only be able to update/migrate when your new usb is workin properly and the update should work nicely when having a working usb

if you dont get the new usb to work properly you can just put in your old and start your system and have a still working nas

with the semi brick you already have installed the update to the system partition and as long as you dont get the new usb loader working you cant access your data that easily (usually a rescue linux or open media vault booted from a added media will get you access to you files if you really need them)

After upgrading extras to v.011 HDD hibernation does not work any more.

Any chance this can be looked at in a next release please?

i'm pretty sure you know clearly what dsm version and extra you had before (when is last worked) and what hardware you use - but you need to tell other people if you talking about a problem, also a log would be good to see whats going on

I also have HDD hibernation problems since upgrading to 6.2.3, loader 1.03b (3615). 6.2.2 with the extra.lzma worked great.

ahh, good, 1st thing you are using jun's drivers now (i'm not to blame;-)), also you are using synology's new kernel of 6.2.3 of witch we dont have the config (no 6.2.3 toolchains)

for 1.04b/918+ i used the same kernel config as for 6.2.2 but removed the change about CONFIG_PCIEASPM

the fact that it happen on 918+ and 3615 might point to  the kernel (source, that we dont have, the 3/2020 release is for 6.2.2) and we dont have the kernel config synology used to build the kernel for 6.2.3

Sorry for offtopic... About DSM6.2.3 with 1.03b (original jun's) and ds3615/ds3617 (i tryed both). "HDD Hibernation" stop working. I think that the reason is in some problems with drivers for scemd.

Yes My Azrock J4105 with DSM6.2.3 with 1.04b/918+ from clean install (clean usb and clean hdd).

Hardware transcoding Work with default Videostation

Plex hardware transcoding only with decode not encode with hardware.  see Plex nas Compatibility for transcoding

Just change on 2nd partition 4 files: 2 from .pat  and 2 extra file from V0.10

Thanks a lot IG-88

Clean USB and HDD install. 6.2.3-25426 918+. 104b, v11 extra and extra2, plus 2 files from pat 6.2.3-25426. hw transcoding was working correctly in plex. I swapped the cpu from 8350K to 9600K and now plex will no longer hw transcode. even though this was a clean build I tried the rm -rf /usr/lib/modules/update/ and reboot, but it didn't make any difference. I though maybe I needed the very latest i915 driver inside the latest video station (not sure if it would matter to plex but i thought to try) downloaded it from the link in this thread, modified it to apollolake and installed it, ignoring the package is corrupt message. it installed ok, but no improvement to plex ... still no hw transcode in plex ....

I do not have a /dev/dri folder, but I don't think plex needs that ...

Do you have an LSI controller (9211-8i) or just the chipset SATA ports? My 6.2.3 install (3615) has one of those running with whatever driver was on Jun's 1.03b extra.lzma. Do you have a recompiled version for LSI for 6.2.3?

"Clean USB and HDD install. 6.2.3-25426 918+. 104b, v11 extra and extra2, plus 2 files from pat 6.2.3-25426. hw transcoding was working correctly in plex. I swapped the cpu from 8350K to 9600K and now plex will no longer hw transcode."

strange

root@DS2:~# dmesg | grep drm
root@DS2:~# dmesg | grep i915
root@DS2:~# cat /var/log/dmesg | grep i915
root@DS2:~# cat /var/log/dmesg | grep drm
root@DS2:~# cat /var/log/dmesg | grep DRM
