martva Posted October 29, 2014 Author #51 Posted October 29, 2014 Hi Mentat, You need to reboot and choose the upgrade line in the bootmenu. Change the version number to 5.0-4528 This is no patch, like all 4493-UPDATEX, but an upgrade. So basically: 1. Reboot xpenology 2. in menu chose install/upgrade 3. click tab 4. change to upgrade=5.0-4528 Or option 2: Flash the USB drive with the boot image from http://www.xpenology.nl/boot-images/. For baremetal: http://www.xpenology.nl/xpenology-downloads/?myvar=1456 1. Boot xpenology 2. in menu chose install/upgrade From a laptop start the synology assistant and upgrade to 4528. Be sure to select keep files and settings. Quote

unmesh Posted October 30, 2014 #60 Posted October 30, 2014 Only thing that was not working and needed a reinstall was the Open-VM-Tools.After removing it, reboot, reinstall, reboot everything was fine again! I've only recently installed ESXi and can still boot my machines into bare-metal DSM. What functionality would I get by installing Open-VM-Tools? Where would I find instructions to install them? Thanks. Quote
Panja Posted October 30, 2014 #61 Posted October 30, 2014 You can download Open-Vm-Tools (v5) from: http://www.gnoboot.me/ Install them via Package Manager in DSM. Once installed you can do a clean shutdown or restart of your XPenology from within ESXI vSphere Client. Quote
manfriday Posted October 30, 2014 #62 Posted October 30, 2014 Has anyone upgraded with Samsung drives of the model type- HD204UI? If so, what happens? Quote

manfriday Posted November 2, 2014 #67 Posted November 2, 2014 Has anyone upgraded with Samsung drives of the model type- HD204UI? If so, what happens? Answering my own question: Installed DSM4-3 3810 on test rig with only 1 HDD Samsung HD204UI. Installed a couple of packages, Antivirus and Download Station Added a user Let install complete. Insert new USB drive and reboot Select install/upgrade from menu. Select PAT file d/loaded previously Installation completed without issue Logon to DSM with Admin attempt to open Storage Manager - get error saying no privilege and kicks me straight out to Logon Screen Log back in with Admin select control panel and straight to update to patch 1 install patch and reboot Logon with Admin Open Storage Manager - no issue Check packages Check userid All is right with DSM Quote
djelusion Posted November 2, 2014 #68 Posted November 2, 2014 so this is what happens when you dont edit the files... so very important step you MUST edit the files on the USB KEY prior to inserting to NAS otherwise this is what happens. I have no vga out to see whats going on but I know what the problem is luckily / hopefully. going to edit the lck files and hope this error doesnt come up again. ok im totally lost.. menu_nano.lst file timeout 5 default 0 fallback 1 title Nanoboot (5.0.3.2) DSM 5.0-4528 root (hd0,0) kernel /zImage ihd_num=0 netif_num=4 syno_hw_version=DS3612xs sn=B3J4N01003 vid=0x0EA0 pid=0x2168 loglevel=0 vga=0x305 title Main Menu configfile (hd0,0)/boot/grub/menu.lst menu_install.lst timeout 5default 0 fallback 3 title Nanoboot (5.0.3.2) DSM 5.0-4528 (install/downgrade) kernel /zImage ihd_num=0 netif_num=4 syno_hw_version=DS3612xs sn=B3J4N01003 vid=0x0EA0 pid=0x2168 loglevel=0 vga=0x305 upgrade=5.0-4528 title Nanoboot (5.0.3.2) DSM 5.0-4493 (install/downgrade) kernel /zImage ihd_num=0 netif_num=4 syno_hw_version=DS3612xs sn=B3J4N01003 vid=0x0EA0 pid=0x2168 loglevel=0 vga=0x305 upgrade=5.0-4493 title Main Menu configfile (hd0,0)/boot/grub/menu.lst So am i deleting the 4493 info in this file so it only says 4528?. wutang200 Posted November 5, 2014 #70 Posted November 5, 2014 I've managed to upgrade to this version directly from 5.0 4418 and everything seems to be working really well. My built in WiFi adapter now works too which didn't before. The built in bluetooth adapter still doesn't work though. EDIT: This was using the 5.0.3.2 boot image. Quote
benjistark Posted November 6, 2014 #71 Posted November 6, 2014 Congrats. I don't have such luck tho. The built in Wifi on my GIGABYTE GA-H97N-WIFI Motherboard is still not working. Keep asking me to insert a USB Wi-Fi adapter. Quote
manfriday Posted November 7, 2014 #72 Posted November 7, 2014 managed to upgrade to 4528 but not without minor issues. New IMG file to USB Edit 3 files to change SN, VID & PID shutdown DSM replace USBs and power up open Syno Assistant and find Migrate-able and select follow the bread crumbs on GUI ----upon reboot screen show a line of garbled characters and no boot tried 3 times to Ctl Alt Del, same result power off and on, enter BIOS set USB as boot. DSM starts and Starting Services sits there for 5 mins Install completes. HW= Atom based Zotec board, never had issues with booting before Quote
