To the OP.

Please provide detailed information on your hardware, loader etc. Without it we cannot help.

Also I would suggest reading the rules and FAQs. Uppercase use is not tolerated specially in the title.

Greetings, gentlemen. I decided that creating a new topic does not make sense if I have the same problem as the author. As I understand it, this is a fairly common situation:

Скрытый текст

I read these messages, but have not yet found an answer how to solve the problem. So I'll try to give a description of my system, if more detailed information is required, I will be glad to provide it:

Processor:    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz (2 cores)
Mother board:    Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L
Memory:        KVR667D2N5/2G
(x2)

I tried to install DSM 6.2.2 with loader DS3615xs 1.03b (fresh install) from this topic

As usual, I flashed the image on a USB flash drive, booted from it and through the console replaced VID and PID in GRUB.cfg.

Web interface started but I see the same picture - No Hard Disk Found on DS3615xs.

After searching the internet I found this topic.

I tried to replace extra.lzma with file from here and zImage and rd.gz from file DSM_DS3615xs_24922.pat, but still get the same result.

Tell me, please, are there any chances to start DSM 6.2.2 on my system or is there no point in trying further ?

@diqipib  It seems like there are many revisions of that mainboard...

But, first thing first, have you identified the onboard SATA controller, and verified the ports are set to AHCI ?

Edit:

Nevermind ..

It seems like your MB's chipset does not support AHCI. It has the ICH7 southbridge, not the ICH7R or ICH7M.

bearcat, thanks for Your answer !

1) So the problem is in SATA controller ?

2) Hm. I checked BIOS settings. That's what I see:

BIOS.thumb.png.383e74aedee20bc2da6c26f04dfb10fc.png

3) Previously I successfully used loader 1.02b DS3615xs with DSM 6.1.7. I thought, if motherboard doesn't support AHCI, it can't run DSM at all (I mean any version of it). Am I wrong ? 🙄

@diqipib Well, that was new info ...

from your post, it looked like a fresh install, using that mainboard for the first time with DSM.

If it worked with 1.02b and 6.1.x, I would assume that drivers for your SATA controller was one of many "lost" in the newer releases.

Doublecheck your controllers ID and driver (with a 1.02b loader and DSM 6.1.x, using a spare HDD if you have it).

Then, try to search the "extra drivers" thread, to see if you fin it there.

btw:

To be honest, I was sure that you needed AHCI support on any SATA controller beeing used :36_flushed:

U r right. My fault. ☺️

Do I understand correctly that then I have no chance to start 6.2.2 ? After all, Synology built in signing file protection and since extra.lzma from 6.2.2 doesn’t include my driver, I can't add it from another extra.lzma from previous versions,  cause it has another sign that doesn't match new bootloader ? Am I wrong ?

Please, can You tell me how to find controller ID ? Now I installed DSM 6.1.7-15284 again. What shall I do next ? 🙄

It sounds like I still have chances. ))

It's good. So life can still surprise us. 😉

@bearcat, I used dmesg with su rights.

"dmesg | grep SATA" returns this:

Maybe it can help ? Any ideas ? )

if

On-Chip Primary PCI IDE, disabled

On-Chip SATA Mode, Enhanced

does not work as ahci you are out of luck with dsm 6.2.2

[    2.769017] scsi0 : ata_piix
[    2.772963] scsi1 : ata_piix

with 6.1 you use the driver ata_piix for the 4 sata ports, not ahci

(you might use "lspci -k | grep 'Kernel driver'" to see this too)

https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/21663-driver-extension-jun-103b104b-for-dsm622-for-3615xs-3617xs-918/

Driver not in this release: ata_piix, mptspi (aka lsi scsi), mptsas (aka lsi sas) - these are drivers for extremely old hardware and mainly important for vmware users, also the vmw_pvscsi is confirmed not to work, bad for vmware/esxi too

jun's 6.2.0 loader 1.03b did contain this driver but it did not work with 6.2.2 anymore and the driver i compiled from the synology source (> 2 years old) for 6.2.2 did not work - as with the i915 (backported) driver jun left no patch or documentation about what he did to make that work so i can't reproduce it (no coding or c++ skills), as before no one else did something like a patch so the only thing to do is to document the "loss" and go on, loosing a 15 year old hardware might not hurt that much and if some one wants to use it as nas he can still use a older version of dsm or use a real linux (open source) system like open media vault

so 6.2.0 might work for you but 6.2.2 is no possible atm without a different controller (had the same on one of my older test systems, added a ahci 2 port controller to use it for testing 6.2.2)

@flyride , yes, of course you are right ! In the end, I can even get the certificate artificially and install it with the same DSM functionality, but the fact is that the old version of DSM 5.1.7 is slowly starting to get glitches, because Synology stops supporting it and the built-in functionality stops working. So, something else may "fall off" tomorrow and no one will fix it. It makes me sad. In addition, an alternative way to obtain a certificate is more time consuming. And DSM for me is in simplicity and convenience. If I have to use an alternative, then it already makes sense to abandon DSM in favor of other solutions. Maybe I'm wrong, but I see it like this. 😏

If i use external PCI-e SATA card i can install DSM6.2.3?

Yep!    It worked in my case  : ASUS P5G41T-M LX2/GB/SI + Pentium Dual-Core E5400, 4Gb DDR3.

Without PCI-e SATA controller installed only 6.1....
