hairyhobo Posted September 3, 2014 #1 Posted September 3, 2014 Hello So, i have just successfully installed XPEnology on my HP54l and its running all ok, quite an achievement seeing as im a total noob at all this! I followed this guide.. http://cyanlabs.net/Thread-Install-Syno ... i-Non-ESXI What I would like to know is if there is anyway for the OS on the USB to run on the HD in the HP54l instead of running off the USB stick? thanks
XPEH Posted September 3, 2014 #2 Posted September 3, 2014 OS is running from HD. USB is just a bootloader, not a full OS.
hairyhobo Posted September 3, 2014 Author #3 Posted September 3, 2014 Ok, so what would you suggest i do to make it all load from a HD?
XPEH Posted September 3, 2014 #4 Posted September 3, 2014 Ok, so what would you suggest i do to make it all load from a HD?[/quoteI don't suggest it. Leave a small USB flash drive plugged in for reboots and don't waste your time on something not important.
hairyhobo Posted September 3, 2014 Author #5 Posted September 3, 2014 Oh right, i thought i read some where that it would install everything across the HD's so you wouldn't need a usb stick. As USB sticks dont last forever and have a habit of dieing

Nothing written on it after initial creation. It will last many lifetimes in this usage.
hairyhobo Posted September 3, 2014 Author #7 Posted September 3, 2014 fair enough, thanks for answering the questions!
spammy Posted September 4, 2014 #8 Posted September 4, 2014 And just to add - it will probably outlast the HDDs, which is kind of the point of this setup. More redundancy is good!
htpcdude Posted September 4, 2014 #9 Posted September 4, 2014 And it is trivial to recreate the USB boot drive
