Compatible drivers with 1.04b bootloader

Recommended Posts

I am using juns 1.04b loader 918+

I am using an MSI z170a motherboard which works great with the bootloader! it even works with the e2400 NIC (which usually doesnt work on Linux).

Since everything seems to be working great, I'd like to invest in a SAS PCI card since the one I have doesnt work (Marvell 88SE9485, AOC-SAS2LP-MV8) and I'd like to get a 10g NIC.

Is there a way to see which NIC's and SAS cards are compatible (work out of the box) on that 1.04b loader?

alx.ko would be the driver you need for this, 918+ uses a newer kernel (4.4.59) so it might not work with 3615/17 (kernel) 3.10.105

the driver would be mvsas.ko - jun does not have this driver in his default extra.lzma but its part of my extension, you can try to boot with it

https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/21663-driver-extension-jun-103b104b-for-dsm622-for-3615xs-3617xs-918/

if you still looking for a replacement then i'd suggest using a ahci 4 or 8 port sata ahci card, ahci support is build into dsm kernel, no extra drivers needed and synology cant remove it as there own hardware uses ahci

i wrote about 8-ports sata cards here:

@IG-88 thank you so much for replying! I actually have tried your driver on two motherboards now (z170i which has an intel NIC and now the z170a which has the e2400 NIC), everything works with the extra's from jun but when I reboot using your drivers the NIC or at least something stops working as I am no longer able to get back into DSM.

Newbie question, but am I suppose to do anything beyond replacing the extra.lzma and extra2.lzma on the usb?

again i am using the 918 1.04b loader

also loading the driver manually (mvsas.ko) using insmod shows a symbol error

insmod: ERROR: could not insert module mvsas.ko: Unknown symbol in module

and here is the dmesg

sas_domain_attach_transport

that and other things are part of "libsas.ko", that needs to be loaded before mvsas.ko (-> rc.modules in extra.lzma)

if you load it manually try this sequence

scsi_transport_spi.ko

scsi_transport_sas.ko

libsas.ko

raid_class.ko

mvsas.ko

@IG-88 I tried to manually loading the drivers but it unfortunately crashed the interface as soon as i try to load mvsas.ko. so I tried injecting them manually to the extra.lzma but then it wouldnt boot 😕

it seems to work (see dmesg below) but it requires to be loaded at startup

edit: I was able to get the modules to load on startup using a script in /usr/local/etc/rc.d/ and it actually works for a few seconds, it finds the drives (according to dmesg) but shortly after it just crashes in a continues loop :(

i've attached the extra.lzma that iam using

are there any alternative marvell drivers? or perhaps a way to get it to load on startup in another way?

extra.lzma

if you can wait then you can test again when i redo then 918+ in december and if you can't then go ahci

when i see the problems with sas/scsi with 1.03b/6.2.2 3615/17 then i think there might be a change in the kernel source (we don't have) preventing any sas/scsi based drivers beside the ones coming with dsm, if that's true then i wont be able to get working drivers for 918+

i will know in about 2 weeks, i have a lsi 9211-8i controller using mpt2sas so i can test drivers

if you want to prevent any certainties then buy a ahci controller, that's sure to work with 918+ 6.2.2

if you can wait then you can test again when i redo then 918+ in december and if you can't then go ahci

when i see the problems with sas/scsi with 1.03b/6.2.2 3615/17 then i think there might be a change in the kernel source (we don't have) preventing any sas/scsi based drivers beside the ones coming with dsm, if that's true then i wont be able to get working drivers for 918+

i will know in about 2 weeks, i have a lsi 9211-8i controller using mpt2sas so i can test drivers

if you want to prevent any certainties then buy a ahci controller, that's sure to work with 918+ 6.2.2

@IG-88 my dude, thank you for everything, i cant thank you enough for even replying. please . take your time.
