Copying Xpenology O/S Onto Backup USB Stick Procedure

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I want to make a copy of my USB stick that I'm currently using to boot Xpenology for redundancy purposes.

Am I correct is saying I can just plug it into my Windows PC and copy the files over?

Is there any sort of config file that's stored on the stick that contains all the settings?

I'm using DSM 5.0 beta.

In Windows you can use win32diskimager that you may have used to write the image to also make a copy of the image e.g USB read.

You do know that this only contains the boot image and not any of the actual OS though?

It should boot as normal.

You can save your DS settings in control panel - Update/restore - configuration backup.

I don't have any option for Configuration Backup here. It only prompts me to update my DSM version.

This is what I see. Sorry about the quality. As you can see the Configuration Backup tab is missing completely for me.

It very same procedure as any other version upgrade via migration. Described many times over on this forum.
