web Gui and shh stoped working

deesnow

Question

Since I have upgraded my xpenology box to DSM 6.1.7-15284 it stopped time to time. Sometimes just lost the web gui and ssh access but the shared folders are accessible, sometimes I lost everything. After a reboot every service working properly.

Can anybody suggest me a process how to identify what cause this issue. Earlier when the NAS was on 5.2 version, it was so stable, I have never experienced this kind of freezing.

@deesnow From what did you upgrade?

If you came from DSM 5.x, using a different bootloader, there is an easy fix.

I dont have the .xpenoboot folder to delete.
GUI and ssh just stopped after few days, sometimes more that a week or 2, so it is something different, but thanks.

@deesnow Ok, since I have lost my magic crystal-ball I will ask you a few questions, for someone to be able to help you:

1 - What version of DSM and bootloader did you upgrade from?

2 - Do you use DS3615 / 3617 / 916 / 918? Did you change this during your upgrade?

3 - What type of NIC do you have, and what driver is it using?

4 - Do you have any additional packages installed? (if so, did you install them before or after the upgrade?)

5 - next Q will follow later ;-)

1. Original version was 5.1 with Nanoboot, and was upgraded to 5.2 + Xpenoboot and than to 6.1 and changed to Jun's loader v1.02b DS3615xs

2. My box is 3615 . It was not changed.

3. I have an Asrock Q1900-ITX, so it should have a  Realtek RTL8111GR network card.

Try this, I don't know if it's the right solution but seems to be working for me!
Reboot and go on uefi bios settings, advanced -> CPU settings and disable "enhanced halt state (C1E)

Sorry for late reply, due to an eye-surgery.

It's strange that you don't have an ".xpenoboot" folder as you upgraded from a typical "problem system" that used xpenoboot

and it was "supposed" to have both the folder and that type of problem, but computers works in mysterious ways ;-)

My "MediaBox" is running all OK with the same mainboard and nic as you have,

I did a clean install of DSM 6.1.7-15284, later updated to Update 3, as a DS3615xs, never saw any problems like those you are seeing.

@deesnow Are you sure you are on DS3615xs and not on DS3617xs? If yes then I would suggest a clean install on a separate drive and make some testings.

If this web GUI stopping is not something predictable or happens once in a while it could also be hardware related or a corruption of DSM. Although I did a tutorial on how to upgrade from DSM 5 to DSM 6 I think it best to start a clean install of DSM 6 because loaders pre-DSM 6 are structurally different.

In any case try testing with a new drive see how that goes.
