merve04 Posted November 2, 2019 Share #1 Posted November 2, 2019 So I just found out... I know I’m perhaps behind times... you can use AMDs Ryzen chips with built in APU for transcoding with Plex. Fully supported de and encoding, does this work via plex in synology? Posts I’ve read else are on windows machines, unraid boxes etc.
IG-88 Posted November 2, 2019 Share #2 Posted November 2, 2019 (edited) as this usually need (linux) drivers and synology only provides stuff for intel (they dont use amd at all) i'd say no the trancoding stuff work through the i915 drivers in the 918+ image and my guess would be that this drivers dont work with ryzen apu's but you can search the forum for this (and learn about using transcoding in in dsm as it is kind of special) if you already have the hardware you might be better off with open media vault as nas software, it a normal open linux and not a (closed source) appliance like dsm Edited December 31, 2019 by IG-
merve04 Posted November 2, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted November 2, 2019 Thanks for the reply. Ya really not sure if there’s Linux support which is kinda of where I thought this answer was going to go. No haven’t purchased hardware, I’ve been looking at local classifieds for some 7th or 8th gen cpu/mobo combos.
