agalis2003 Posted August 6, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2014 Hello, I'm new on this forum but I was wondering if it's possible to install XPEnology on an older NAS and not a complete computer? My actual NAS is a Xtreamer eTrayz (running on Linux) and I was wondering if it's possible to use it with XPEnology and how to install it ? http://dev.xtreamer.net/etrayz/specs.aspx Thank you Regards
koolvn Posted August 6, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) You might want to look at these guides below but there is no warranty any of it would work for your system so make sure to find a way to backup and able to restore your current OS before trying: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3581 viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2565 viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3196 Edited August 6, 2014 by Guest
berwhale Posted August 6, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 6, 2014 The only other NAS I can find with that CPU (actually a SoC) is the Western Digital My Book World Edition II and it's performance is far from stellar... http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/index.ph ... =&chart=87 (it's the 4th one from the bottom). I think it's unlikely that you'll get DSM to work on it (though happy to be wrong!) and it's performance will be very poor if you do. For comparison, both the servers in my .sig have very modest specs and both achieve over 100MB/sec CIFs file transfers - although they are running 4 and 5 drive SHR arrays which will help performance a great deal.
