Xpenology 3615 to synology...?

Question

Posted

Hello, first post here!

I have been using an xpenology DS3615, on a HP proliant. It has 4 drives in it. I shall admit that I set it up with the help from a friend and on and off have had some help to keep it going.

Lately I have found that the xpenology has been getting less and less reliable, usually it's the "time" problem so I just reflash the drive and usually it keeps working but lately I have tried to do that and it's not working at all. I wonder if it's because I'm using an OSX and I've missed something all along. Currently I can't really access the drives at all as I can't get it to show up on my network, despite changing a few cables around and also trying to reflash the bootloader.

Anyway I am considering swapping the hardware to a DS418/play. Would anyone know if I could simply physically move the hard drives over to the new "box", and use the migrate function for it to upgrade, or do I need to recover all the data, and then transfer it all again?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

i'd say you can use the disks and upgrade in a 418play (it will ask you to upgrade and even warn you before overwriting and loosing data)

but having a backup is always a good thing
