Konfl1kt Posted October 1, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 1, 2019 Hello, Download Station doesn't download torrents if VPN is connected. Any ideas why it can happen? Thank you.
Polanskiman Posted October 1, 2019 Share #2 Posted October 1, 2019 Could be that you have enabled on the vpn profile the use of the remote gateway. Can you be more specific?

Polanskiman Posted October 2, 2019 Share #4 Posted October 2, 2019 That second screenshot you posted is not the vpn’s advanced settings screen. It’s DSM’s network configuration screen. Select your vpn and then click on the edit button.

Polanskiman Posted October 2, 2019 Share #6 Posted October 2, 2019 Untick the « use default gateway on remote network » option. Now try again with Download station. Don’t forget to restart the vpn connection. Also if I may I would suggest using Openvpn or L2TP. PPTP is old and not safe anymore.

Polanskiman Posted October 2, 2019 Share #10 Posted October 2, 2019 Surprised. Relaunch your download station as well as all your network connections then try again. It should work in principal. 😕

merve04 Posted February 2, 2020 Share #14 Posted February 2, 2020 Very strange. I’ve used ExpressVPN in my synology for over a year, no issue. Maybe delete your VPN profile, uninstall download station and try to reconfigure.

Many of them have promotional but only via app on Windows. Thank you for your post!
merve04 Posted February 4, 2020 Share #16 Posted February 4, 2020 Free tends to be unreliable, I think most that use VPN's may recommend NordVPN or ExpressVPN.

merve04 Posted February 4, 2020 Share #18 Posted February 4, 2020 If i go in my control panel, under network, general tab, (this applies when my VPN is connected) my default gateway is the VPN, followed by my local network, advance settings, both options are checked on. In regards to the settings of my VPN, theres 4 check mark boxes available, i use the first, second and fourth.

Konfl1kt Posted February 8, 2020 Author Share #21 Posted February 8, 2020 I found a reason and good for me it's nothing about my NAS. The VPN provider just blocking any torrent traffic, because a subscription was gotten for free with unlimited traffic. I checked it on other machines, it's work nowhere. It's kind of stupid because I want to be able to check speed before buying.
merve04 Posted February 11, 2020 Share #22 Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) So I have gigabit, when I use download Station, no VPN, I tend to hit 40-60MBps, with my VPN on (ExpressVPN) 20-25MBp. On my desktop, when I run Speedtest, I hit 940-960Mbps both directions, but even downloading from the very best servers like Microsoft for example, 70-80MBps max not sure why nas is slow like that, could it be HDD writing speed? I would think it can handle more than 60MBps? Edited February 11, 2020 by merve04

And you right about HDD, I think it's limited you speed to ~100.
