HP Microserver Gen10

Just a short summary on my attempts of running xpenology on an HP Gen10.

I used the 918+ 1.04 loader and the latest DSM 6.2.2 image.

Install worked without any problems visible initially. Only later I noticed, that the system was only using 4GB of the 8GB of RAM installed (kernel log says due to faulty HP BIOS).

DSM operated just fine, network cards (2x 1GBE onboard, Broadcom) were supported out of the box, no addition of e1000e needed.

I don't own the system anymore though as I returned it due to the 4 vs. 8GB RAM issue and the fact that it wouldn't work with my PCIe DVB-Card (timing issues on the PCIe-Bus).

No need for e1000e because you used a Broadcom NIC which is a vanilla DSM compatible NICs. You probably had one of these:

BroadcomNetXtreme II BCM5706/5706S/5708/5708S/5709/5709S/5716/5716S.

Actually looking at the specs of the HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331FLR adapter, it uses the Broadcom BCM5719 chipset. Not sure if this is the adaptor you had but seems close enough.

hi

i've got one, with 32Gb RAM and it's work like a charme under XPenology 6.1.7-15284. (DS3117XS)

i've now re-installed my Microserver gen10 under ESXi 6.7 (because Virtual machine manager on XPEnology have restrictions)

and migrate XPEnology to a VM with RDM disks (Raid 1 2x4To)

The VM start, see RDM disk in bios but DSM installer don't, and ask for adding a disk to continue....

hope someone better than me in ESXi will try the same configuration and find what's wrong.

The 4/8 GB problem might not occur with an older (6.1 uses a 3-series Kernel while 6.2 uses a 4.4 Kernel) - so watch out if you upgrade to DSM 6.2(.2).

no afaik DSM 6.2.2 for 3615/3617 still uses kernel 3.10.105, only the 918+ image has 4.4 kernel

want to check? just take a ko module (from the dsm pat file), open it in a editor an d search for "vermagic"

according to the manual its a BCM5720 for HP Microserver Gen10, needing the tg3 driver but as he used the 918+ image none of the broadcom pcie nic's are supported ootb (vanilla) neither tg3, bnx2, bnx2x is in the dsm pat file, he must have used a additional driver from a extra.lzma

only bnx2x is present in vanilla 3615/3617
