headrat Posted August 28, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 28, 2019 (edited) Hi, Picked up a BUFFALO TeraStation TS5800D dirt cheap (with 24TB of discs), just wondered if this would be capable of running XPenology? Currently it's running a a "backup" for my main NAS but the Buffalo software is horrible Cheers HEADRAT Edited August 28, 2019 by headrat
jensmander Posted August 29, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2019 The TS is relatively old. Intel D2700 Cpu, 2GB Ram and an Intel WG82574L Nic. I doubt that you can run one of the newer loaders/Dsm versions on it. Maybe 1.02b... You‘ll have to modify the Bios settings of your TS. To gain entry, power down your TS, connect a keyboard to the usb port, monitor to vga and your boot stick to another usb port. Power it on and press F2 or F7 repeatedly. Set your boot stick as the primary boot device. Save, exit and see if it’s working.
partytimexcellent Posted February 12, 2020 Share #3 Posted February 12, 2020 I know this is an old thread , but I’m posting here to confirm that DSM works just fine if these machines, even 6.2.2. I have the TS5400D (4-bay, Atom D2550). It can be upgraded to 4GB RAM, but I’ve never seen it use even 1GB. I’m guessing if you try to run a bunch of dockers it will struggle but it’s just fine as a file server. Install process is a little involved for 6.2+ but doable. I’ll try to post more details when I’m all dialed in.
headrat Posted February 13, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted February 13, 2020 Thanks for this, haven't really messed about with this due to time constraints so a push in the right direction would be very much appreciated.
Augustin Posted July 19, 2020 Share #5 Posted July 19, 2020 Hi, I have a TeraStation WS5600D currently running OMV but I would like to install DSM on it. Tried to install using 1.03 loader but I can not find it on the network to continue the process. Any suggestions witch loader/DSM to use (or even more helpful the steps to do it)? Thanks

Just put back OMV on it so I can run the command you mentioned and this is the output: root@OMV-Buffalo:~# lspci -k 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D2xxx/N2xxx DRAM Controller (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D2xxx/N2xxx DRAM Controller 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D2xxx/N2xxx Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0b) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D2xxx/N2xxx Integrated Graphics Controller Kernel driver in use: gma500 Kernel modules: gma500_gfx 00:1a.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller Kernel driver in use: uhci_hcd Kernel modules: uhci_hcd 00:1a.1 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller Kernel driver in use: uhci_hcd Kernel modules: uhci_hcd 00:1a.2 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #6 Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller Kernel driver in use: uhci_hcd Kernel modules: uhci_hcd 00:1a.7 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller Kernel driver in use: ehci-pci Kernel modules: ehci_pci 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) PCI Express Root Port 1 Kernel driver in use: pcieport 00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) PCI Express Root Port 4 Kernel driver in use: pcieport 00:1c.4 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) PCI Express Root Port 5 Kernel driver in use: pcieport 00:1c.5 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) PCI Express Root Port 6 Kernel driver in use: pcieport 00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller Kernel driver in use: uhci_hcd Kernel modules: uhci_hcd 00:1d.1 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller Kernel driver in use: uhci_hcd Kernel modules: uhci_hcd 00:1d.2 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller Kernel driver in use: uhci_hcd Kernel modules: uhci_hcd 00:1d.7 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller Kernel driver in use: ehci-pci Kernel modules: ehci_pci 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev 90) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801JIR (ICH10R) LPC Interface Controller Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801JIR (ICH10R) LPC Interface Controller Kernel driver in use: lpc_ich Kernel modules: lpc_ich 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) SATA AHCI Controller Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) SATA AHCI Controller Kernel driver in use: ahci Kernel modules: ahci 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) SMBus Controller Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) SMBus Controller Kernel driver in use: i801_smbus Kernel modules: i2c_i801 02:00.0 USB controller: Renesas Technology Corp. uPD720201 USB 3.0 Host Controller (rev 03) Kernel driver in use: xhci_hcd Kernel modules: xhci_pci 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82574L Gigabit Network Connection Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82574L Gigabit Network Connection Kernel driver in use: e1000e Kernel modules: e1000e 04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82574L Gigabit Network Connection Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82574L Gigabit Network Connection Kernel driver in use: e1000e Kernel modules: e1000e root@OMV-Buffalo:~# As mentioned before loader 1.02b/DSM6.1/ds3615 installs and runs perfectly but with loader 1.03b for ds3615_6.2 was unable to find it on the network at first boot so unable to start installing DSM.
