rdm Posted June 25, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2014 Hi guys, I just wanted your opinions if it would be worth it to use a single separate HDD for downloads/temporary storage? I'm not sure how much wear torrents and usenet downloads will do to my 4 x 3TB SHR array (i.e. preventing spin down and sleep of the drives). Elpee Posted June 25, 2014 Share #2 Posted June 25, 2014 That's a great idea, IMHO.

Raidersan Posted August 23, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 23, 2014 Hi, I have tried to do exactly that but it does look like Synology's SHR system does not allow 1 drive to be woken up independently. I did the same on an UNRAID setup (JBOD system) without any issue. It looks like any access on Synology wakes up all volumes regardless of the one that is accessed If anybody found a way around this I'll be happy to be told otherwise! fjf Posted August 24, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 24, 2014 Would it work with an external USB drive?
