I don't mind you available for download, but please Indicate the source http://nanoboot.tk

Hi sancome, Thanks so much for all the work you put into this. Very much appreciated!

But I do have one question. As a noob on this subject, is it save to build a new bootable USB drive of the new nanoboot 5.0.3.1 and replace the old usb drive with version 5.0.2.4? In other words. Will it still boot the installation of DSM5-4482? And then update the installation.

Does it means I should add Mac adress in syslinux.cfg to avoid some apps to crash ?

I installed 4493 on a new disk (removed old ones) and I didn't had to inject Mac adress

Why Mac adress is needed/used in Linux boot process ?

may I know what is the different between this boot image and this "NanoBoot-5.0.3.1-fat.img"?

To what boot image are you referring?

If your talking about boot image from my site, it's the same in functionality except different boot menu.

yes the boot image is from your site.

Thank for the reply.

using latest nanoboot, and DSM 4493U1. This is what I did to create a unique serial number, and according to the Synology assistant, it seeams to have worked.

Just to clarify to have a unique serial number I should

edit \\usbshare1\boot\grub\menu_install.lst and in lines

title Nanoboot DSM 5.0-4493 (install/downgrade)

kernel /zImage ihd_num=0 netif_num=4 syno_hw_version=DS3612xs sn=B3J4N01003 vid=0x0EA0 pid=0x2168 loglevel=0 vga=0x305 upgrade=5.0-4493

change the bolded serial number to something unique like

title Nanoboot DSM 5.0-4493 (install/downgrade)

kernel /zImage ihd_num=0 netif_num=4 syno_hw_version=DS3612xs sn=B3J4N98765 vid=0x0EA0 pid=0x2168 loglevel=0 vga=0x305 upgrade=5.0-4493

then

edit \\usbshare1\boot\grub\menu_nano.lst and in line

kernel /zImage ihd_num=0 netif_num=4 syno_hw_version=DS3612xs sn=B3J4N01003 vid=0x0EA0 pid=0x2168 loglevel=0 vga=0x305

change the bolded serial number to same unique value like

kernel /zImage ihd_num=0 netif_num=4 syno_hw_version=DS3612xs sn=B3J4N98765 vid=0x0EA0 pid=0x2168 loglevel=0 vga=0x305

Hi there,

i did a clean install on n54l. I can't seem to find the syslinux.cfg file in USB key. can you elaborate please?

Open folder boot/grub. You can change serial/mac in the ‘menu_nano.lst’ and ‘menu_install.lst’ files.

thanks to you both. very easily done. just wondering is there a specific format for the serial no? or can it be any string of letters numbers? e.g. just the actual HP serial no. of my n54l?
