Try my extra : (no need to disable anything in bios)

Change of this extra.lzma >

- removed drivers i915.ko drm_kms_helper.ko drm.ko in usr/lib/modules

- removed reference of this drivers in etc/rc.modules

im assuming that using this extra.lzma kills hardware acceleration?

exactly (real3x and Hostilian did the same)

olegin also had a extra.lzma that was acknowledged to work where the original fails and kept hardware acceleration

it was changing the order on loading modules, i adapted this in my test extra.lzma for 918+ but got no feedback if its working the way intended

if this is a problem then i would do two versions of extra.lzma, one with the hardware acceleration and one without

i915.ko drm_kms_helper.ko and drm.ko are the one from original dsm 918, FW doesn't really mater, i juste said that for the note.

The story : i erased my syno i915 FW folder so i took the FW from a fedora, and it workerd with the dsm one and with the fedora one so no worry about the FW, we can swap them with another distrib.

Are we speaking about the same motherboard GA-J3455N-D3H ?

For me it's working since the beginning without the jun's drivers, exactly like you do (extra.lmza file - delete extra2.lzma and cleaning out the modules) and /dev/dri is present.

can asrock J3455 do the same?

I tried many times, but failed.

i use ASrock J3455-ITX install ds918+ dsm6.2.2 with loaded 1.0.4b  ,  also slow boot

sorry for my english

Hola!

I'm watching for mount a custom NAS with https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B01MQ0EUBS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A1AT7YVPFBWXBL&psc=1

Works fine with last version of DSM.

Support transcoding than DS918+?

not sure what's with my Q1900DC-ITX.

with the custom extra.lzma, i'm able to install/reinstall ok.  but on reboot, 3 of 4 times, the built-in NIC isn't recognized (i.e. no green/activity light).

but via reinstall, the NIC is always recognized.

it's as though some of the settings in the DSM partitions -- i've 5 3TB in my rig -- aren't in sync.  it's hit-n-miss whether LAN connection occurs.

any ideas?  much appreciated.

that is exactly my case, on a asrock j3710......

everything seems fine with the extra lzma but every 3-4 reboots no lan.......

I gave up and went back to more stable 6.1.7 since I often power up my system from remote......and could be very dangerous not having lan when I cannot do an hardware reset....

i forgot to report back earlier ... changing my USB boot from legacy to UEFI resolved the above NIC issue.

Syno DSM got his own i915 compiled drivers, and for note i swap i915 FW with the one i took on a Fedora, without problem.

So wait do we need to copy some files from Fedora to get transcoding working?

The extra.lzma in your signature has NO i915 files at all

so it will use the files coming by default with dsm 918+ from synology

having newer files might be a option for people having newer intel hardware then what the original 918+ have to get it working

there does not seem to be a definite answer to this, needs testing and documentation

if someone wants to try to play and find out or document something ahead

thats my catalog of things about the i915 firmware

source is jun's rc.modules in comparison with https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/i915

there are some newer versions in kernel.org repository
(usable without new compiled driver?)

i found out some more (most firmware file id's  where ending on "L" like Lake)

bxt -> Broxton (Goldmont line, same as Apollolake but Broxton was cancelled)

cml -> Cometlake (2020+)
cnl -> Cannonlake
ehl -> Elkhartlake (Goldmont line, Denverton successor, 2020+)
glk -> Geminilake (Goldmont Plus line)
icl -> Icelake
kbl -> Kabylake (also for Coffeelake because of same GPU?)
skl -> Skylake
tgl -> Tigerlake (2020+)

dmc -> Display Microcontroller
guc -> Graphics micro (µ) Controlle
huc -> HEVC/H.265 micro (µ) Controller

Gen 9.5 Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake, Gemini Lake

Gen 10  Cannon Lake

looks like the original driver is usable up to kabylake with the right firmware and jun's driver is good up to icelake

but it might depend on the pci id's used, so newer icelake versions having a new identifier might not work even if being icelake

Are we speaking about the same motherboard GA-J3455N-D3H ?

For me it's working since the beginning without the jun's drivers, exactly like you do (extra.lmza file - delete extra2.lzma and cleaning out the modules) and /dev/dri is present.

I am using J3455n-D3h, and my nas have slow problem like your previous status.

But you solved the problem to modify loader.

Can you send me your modified 1.04b loader USB image?

Plz~!! my e-mail is shuri000@naver.com

I am doing fresh inststall on GIGABYTE GA-J3455N-D3H with Jun's Loader v1.04b DS918+ and I ran in some problems.

What I have tried:

  1. I edited grub file to match and put image on usb. In that way I was able to upload DSM via find.synology.com, but it doesnt boot after that. I tried to replace extra.lzma file with real3x one and delete extra2.lzma (I did that via OSFMount). Also tried too keep extra2 file or just duplicate extra file and rename it to extra2 but it didn't work. After that I used livediskt to mound my disks as rowdy did, but there is no /usr/lib/modules/update/ folder so I am not able to clean it.

  2. I tried also just to replace extra file with real3x and to do clean install (I deleted partitions tables so it really was clean install) but in that way I couldn't find anything via find.synology.com or install DSM.

I tried many variations of installations mentioned above, but with no luck. In the best case I can get "DiskStation login:" via serial, but I am running out of ideas. I would appriciate your help. Thanks
