geky Posted June 14, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2019 USB 3.0 (USB 3.2 Gen1) dongles have appeared in the market supporting ethernet RJ45 adaptors with 2.5/5.0 GBit speed. e.g: https://www.club-3d.com/en/detail/2467/usb_3.2_gen1_type_a_to_rj45_2.5gbps/ https://www.qnap.com/en/product/qna-uc5g1t It would be great if someone would be able to develop drivers so that we can use these dongles with Xpenology or even synology NASs. Is anyone knowledgable and interested enough to give it a go?
mervincm Posted June 25, 2019 Share #2 Posted June 25, 2019 What an excellent idea! I wish synology would add this to base DSM for my real 1815+ !!!
Black6spdZ Posted September 29, 2019 Share #3 Posted September 29, 2019 I haven't been able to get this working on xpenology ds918+
mervincm Posted September 29, 2019 Share #4 Posted September 29, 2019 excellent! thanks so much for your work. Once these show up at my local QNAP dealer I will buy one and see what it does for my DS1813+ !
Black6spdZ Posted September 30, 2019 Share #5 Posted September 30, 2019 got it working!, for some reason I just had to go to command prompt and run: ifconfig eth2 up, shows up in network interfaces now getting link and dhcp from my router. I will dirrect connect it to a 10g adapter on my PC later to test throughput "dont have a 10g switch yet"
Black6spdZ Posted September 30, 2019 Share #6 Posted September 30, 2019 shoot, my x540 10G adapter doesn't support NBase-T speeds 5/2.5.. so I have another adapter on the way.
Black6spdZ Posted October 6, 2019 Share #7 Posted October 6, 2019 I can't seem to get the link to work over 1000Mbps In the Aqantia driver readme it says: Supported ethtool options ============================ Viewing adapter settings --------------------- ethtool <ethX> Output example: Settings for enp1s0: Supported ports: [ ] Supported link modes: 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full 10000baseT/Full Supported pause frame use: Symmetric Supports auto-negotiation: Yes Advertised link modes: 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full 10000baseT/Full Advertised pause frame use: Symmetric Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes Speed: 10000Mb/s Duplex: Full Port: FIBRE PHYAD: 0 Transceiver: external Auto-negotiation: on Link detected: yes --- Note: AQrate speeds (2.5/5 Gb/s) will be displayed only with linux kernels > 4.10. IG-88 Posted October 6, 2019 Share #8 Posted October 6, 2019 i've downloaded the latest driver "AQ_USBDongle_LinuxDriver_1.3.3.0.zip" and the fiji.tar.gz contains a "README.md" but nothing like this what readme? where did you downlaod it? Black6spdZ Posted October 7, 2019 Share #9 Posted October 7, 2019 (edited) Direct from Marvell / AQtion for the AQC111C http://driverdownloads.aquantia.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/20190605_Linux_ver_2.2.6.0.178.zip I'm not even sure where the 1.3.3.0 version is from unless it's a really old one. IG-88 Posted October 7, 2019 Share #10 Posted October 7, 2019 that's a different driver for the pcie cards, i know because i compiled both for the new 918+ extra.lzma the 1.3.3 is the one or the usb, the chip you would have to select ends with a "U" like usb the 1.3.3 has a release date of 08 July 2019, so its not old
Black6spdZ Posted October 8, 2019 Share #11 Posted October 8, 2019 ah oops, missed the C vs U version. So even though I got a 5Gb connection with the adapter plugged into my PC I've ordered some new Cat7 cables to make sure it's not falling back to 1Gb with the linux drivers on the NAS
Black6spdZ Posted October 10, 2019 Share #12 Posted October 10, 2019 well new Cat7 cable made no difference, still only links at 1Gb with the QNAP USB NIC on the NAS. I'm at a loss what it could be. This is pretty dissapointing.
Black6spdZ Posted October 10, 2019 Share #13 Posted October 10, 2019 (edited) update, so it seems my adapter is only running at USB2 speeds and thus the NIC limits link speed to 1Gb. lsusb 1c04:0015:0101 00 2.10 480MBit/s 500mA 1IF (QNAP QNAP QNA-UC5G1T USB to 5GbE Adapter 97I05619) it is indeed plugged into a USB 3.0 port, why would the USB be falling back to USB2 speed? I need to go look in my bios a lil.. I'm wondering if I have XHCI hand-off enabled Edited October 10, 2019 by Black6spdZ
IG-88 Posted October 10, 2019 Share #14 Posted October 10, 2019 (edited) i'm not sure the dsm 6.1 for 3615/17 is supporting usb 3.0, there is no xhci-hcd.ko present in dsm (like it is in 918+ image) but the dsm 6.2 for 3615 has it Edited October 10, 2019 by IG-

Black6spdZ Posted October 11, 2019 Share #18 Posted October 11, 2019 there are two usb3 ports on the back, one has the sandisk bootloader drive and the other has the qnap nic.. I've been searching and see others with similar issues with other versions of linux kernels.. some fixed with bios settings, others with newer kernels.. i'm lost. Anyone know if maybe r8152-apollolake-2.12.0-2.spk driver from bb-qq would work on a haswell(GA-Z87X-UD5H,4670k,club3d 2.5gbe) ds918 1.04b loader? DS918+ is listed as Apollolake package arch.
