Hi everyone,

I happy with this project and due to some needs I'm interesting to try asustor ADM from http://www.asustor.com as it looks promising and more feature rich.

 

I know most of you will not like the idea, But I can work on it with some support from from the community and let's see where it will goes.

 

OK here what I did so far,

  1. Visited http://www.asustor.com/service/downloads?product_id=21
  2. Downloaded http://download.asustor.com/download/adm/AS-2XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img
  3. Remove the header (261 bytes) of the file "AS-2XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img"
  4. Extracted the file after removing the header
  5. Booted the resulted file "bzImage" in vmware but stuck in "Switching to clocksource tsc"!

 

Other Ref http://sourceforge.net/projects/asgpl/

 

So either I go to recompile using source from sourceforge or What?

How do you know to remove the header (261 bytes) of the file "AS-2XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img" ?

Just quick look at the file in HEX mode showed that.

 

thanks for debug info (more information about environment please). So I can translate it to that We shall start debugging the kernel (Task 1).

Task 2 - We need to decide should we patch the original file or shall We compile from source ?

Task 3 - We need to decide should We keep it here or move it to anther website something XPSTOR :smile: ?

We need to get initramfs first, only the kernel is not enough, look this:

the ramfs is in remain part of the file after tar part.

The kernel is only about 2.3MB only But the total file is 93MB so the remain part is the ram fs i expect.

by splitting the file "AS-2XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img" if 4 parts using following information :

I will stick to "AS-2XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img" for now as my target is to have a working media in first place.

I will dig a bit in source code from sourceforge and will see where I get

How about AS-6XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img with kernel 3.7.9 ? i can't split it, it is different.

The file structure is same, but the use bzip2 compressed the tar archive. Just use the following command to extract those files:

 

bzImage:
tail -c +262 AS-6XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img | bunzip2 | tar xf -

initramfs:
tail -c +3109163 AS-6XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img | bunzip2 | tar xf -

builtin.tgz:
tail -c +13189717 AS-6XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img | bunzip2 | tar xf -

Also regarding the "AS-6XX_2.1.1.R3B2.img" it's almost the same with one small difference that parts are compressed with bzip2 and I had successfully extracted all files form it.

what do you mean by: "Switching to clocksource tsc" for me, with bzImage extracted via tail, the virtual machine does not boot.

I tried to take the original file, version 2.1.1 for 2xx, all files unpacks properly with the control files, except for the initramfs. I can mount the archive but not extract it. I have a message that the archive is truncated. Yet I have taken the same values ​​as the table. And in the archive, I do not have control files that appear.

 

edit : problem resolved, i have 9 files, but i dont know boot the bzImage file ...
