Trial of Nanoboot (4493) - 5.0.3.1

Recommended Posts

Stupid question from a long time Xpenology user.

What are people using the VID/PID customization in syslinux.cfg for?

U use that to hide usb stick in dsm. That's the vid and pid of original synology.

Read Here: http://www.techspot.com/review/649-syno ... page2.html

"This tiny PCB features a USBest UT165-L46 controller that's often found in thumb drives and is connected to a single Samsung K9F1G08U0C-PCB0 128MB memory chip, which is designed to house the operating system."

Today I tried to update from DSM4 3202 to DSM5 4588 and for some reason I cannot update with the synology assistent.

If I use the NanoBoot 5.0.2.4 or GNOboot 10.5.7 stick the synology assistent says my configuration is lost.

If I use the original stick, my DSM won't properly boot and shows up in the synology assistent with the wrong ip adres and stating that it is running DSM5 4482. But I can't get any data from the drives or shares.

If I try to upload the original PAT file or a DSM4 (3211) I always get the error that the file is corruptes (error 13)

Also, I see no red errors but with all the sticks I use to boot I get ' Startup daemons', date and time and "Excution error"

I have a HP N36L

What should I do now?

Restore from backup... assuming you took a backup..

I was on 4.3 Beta2, went to DSM5 4598 Nanoboot last night without any issues. SMOOTH!

16TB so i was a little bit worried if it failed!

I did not even know how to make a backup of the OS. I don't have a place to backup 6Tb of stuff to

Edit: I just installed DSM 5 4493 with the latest Nanoboot found on synology.nl

Finally the DSA showed me that the system was migrateable.

It is starting fine but I can't find my drives and all my applications are lost. I see that the 3 harddrives are filled with data as they do not appear to be empty. But for some reason, I can't see them.

Edit2: I wanted to create a new file share with the same name of my old config but I get a error stating that is already in use.. Is this the copyprotection of Synology?

Tested, it works on my hardware.

Can I upgrade to Update 1 ???

Yes you can! See signature for links.

Thanks. Due to some misunderstanding in google translation, I clicked "Yes" directly in step3.

It can still update to update1 without any error msg. Now it shows DSM-4493 update11 in system update page.

Does it mean I have updated server successfully?

Sorry for my poor English, I will try to update the information posted here.

NanoBoot's Chinese website is: http://nanoboot.tk

If your native language is English, Please visit the following URL:

http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... boot.tk%2F

I'm working on 5.0-4482, prior to this, we need to solve the verification problem.

Dear sansome,

Thank you for your great work!

I got a problem, the DSM vm would halt by a random of time (some hours or some days),

It have no response, no error message, those happen on gnoboot/nanoboot,

last time in gnoboot, it show something about ext4 file system problem,

It should be fix by hardware reboot, dsm vm cannot shutdown by exsi,

other then that the system running very smooth now,

While others vm still alive/active.

my esxi config:

- N40L 16G Ram

- RDM hdd for DSM by 9261-8i in Raid 0

- one pcie 1x intel lan

Thank you!

Hi,

My question: It's save to add the "modules" repository to a homemade DSM box with nanoboot, or I need to forget this?

Thank you!

Hello

So i have this working in virtualbox on W7 via iso with a virtual adapter bridged to my ethernet adapter. Works a treat (Having followed the guide on this website)

However, when i change the bridge to be connected to my wirless centrino adapter, it stops working.

Question is, why. I guess its the MAC code, but what should i be changing it too? If its a MAC code i have to change, what do I change it to? I thought there was only 4 MAC addresses to choose from according to some posts?

Inside of virtualboxI have tried a NAT adapter instead but still get synology assistant saying its not connected. I was led to believe that it doesnt matter whether its a wired or wirless adapter, virtual box makes the VM machine see it as whatever it wants too ( i guess a ethernet connection in this case)

So what am I doing wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Ta

More on my problem to use nanoboot.

I rebooted with Trantor Nanoboot 5.0.3.1 and update my SN.

Still no contents in share but a beautifull stack trace in /var/log/messages.

Question :

Should I try to update to 4493 or 4482 ?

Or should I reinstall DSM from scratch ?

Thanks for your help and advices

Stupid question from a long time Xpenology user.

What are people using the VID/PID customization in syslinux.cfg for?

U use that to hide usb stick in dsm. That's the vid and pid of original synology.

Read Here: http://www.techspot.com/review/649-syno ... page2.html

"This tiny PCB features a USBest UT165-L46 controller that's often found in thumb drives and is connected to a single Samsung K9F1G08U0C-PCB0 128MB memory chip, which is designed to house the operating system."

Thanks!

i wanna migrate to nanoboot last release, also in 5.0 4493

it is possible to do this without wiping all my data ? (i dont care about config, but i have no space to backup data) . i have read many time it's impossible to go from 4.3 to 5 without losing data.

i'm looking for any information about this. thx you.

I have a similar issue, using gnoboot with 4458-update2.

When I use nanoboot 5.0.2.4 or 5.0.3.1 has boot, some applications crash (see upper)

Hi,

I'm already interested on this. Which problems have you detected?

With nanoboot:

start wizard, create ssd cache (read/write or read-only, it's the same) for volume1, wizard finish, sdd cache were created, but volume1 crash.

If I reboot, volume1 it's always crashed... to fix it I have to remove sdd-cache (volume1 become ok)

I tried also on other hw, but wizard end without creating ssd-cache and volume1 it's still ok.

Hi,

Similar, but not equal, to me. I open a new thread related to this: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3251

I hope we can found a solution/workaround!

Sorry for my bad English.

Use nanoboot 5.0.3.1 x64

Proliant Microserver n54l.

And discovered that my USB Audio Adapter Creative Sound Blaster Play stopped working... Audiostation just does not see it.

Someone else have this situation?

Hi,

I used Trantor 4.3 and migrated to nanoboot with DSM 5 without losing any data on last week.

I only replaced USB stick with nanoboot, booted my NAS, selected Upgrade into bootlist then applied pat file through Synology Assistant. I only had to reinstall app with package center, reapply privileges to shared folders and recreate my backup tasks. I kept all my data, including Plex db.

How did you reapply privileges ?

I'm still noob with DSM.

Thanks

Manually.

When migrating privilege settings are not saved.
