chipper Posted April 30, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 30, 2014 Hello all Fantastic forum, i have read a fair amount on the forum and have decided to install DSM 4.3 (5.0 later) but i have a question about the install. I will be running a HP N54L with 3 x 2Tb WD red's in a raid 5 configuration, on the initial install do i just insert all drives and the install process will configure the raid 5 and install the OS ? Or would i be better off having another drive where the OS is installed along with other bits and pieces and the 3 x 2Tbs drives installed after the initial setup then configured into raid 5? Thank you in advance
Schnapps Posted April 30, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 30, 2014 Hi, your question and many more were answered already in other threads. Just spend some minutes on reading other threads as good information may come handy. By default, DSM is installed on a separate system partition, "mirrored" on all available HDDs. This is the best way to have it. Don't be grumpy about losing a couple of gigs from your big disk group. MarsManden Posted April 30, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 30, 2014 My opinion - install the 3 x 2TB disks, install DSM, but DON'T let the install process set up the volume. After the install, create a volume on the disks - now you may choose which raid you want.
