Extract Pat Firmware file

What you need is

 

[1] http://www.izarc.org/izarc2go.html

[2] http://www.7-zip.de/

[3] *.pat file from Synology Nas http://ukdl.synology.com/download/beta/DSM4.2_beta/

 

Now open izarc open the *.pat file Extract it to your hdd.

Now open 7Zip and Extract the hda1.tgz to your hdd.
