jthorpe Posted February 23, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 23, 2019 Need help: I'm anxiously awaiting a 3 TB WD Red drive to be delivered to start my XPenology NAS box. I have an actual S/N for a DS2415+ box that I'm looking to simulate. However, don't know what loader, etc. I need. What loader do I need? Where do I get it? How do I put it on the Verbatim 16 GB low profile USB drive? Where do I get the PAT (??) file to load onto the drive? How do I load it onto the drive? Do I need to do anything to make sure it sees all 12 SATA ports on my ASROCK Rack C2550D4I motherboard? I'm using a Fractal Design Node 804 case with a ASROCK Rack C2550D4I motherboard. The case & motherboard is capable of having 12 total drives. This is what I'm wanting to accomplish with a NAS (build): 1.) Start off with a drive and be able to increase/expand the storage space without having to move all of the data off of the drive(s). 2.) Able to change to a SHR1 when I have 3 drives and then a SHR2 (able to lose 2 drives) when I have 4 drives, without having to move/lose data as more drives are added. Stream media to media devices, but restrict access to other folders/files. 3.) Access NAS from outside home network to download/upload like My Cloud has with a couple of their pre-built NAS's. 4.) Allow streaming of media files only (in music or movie folder) to others using a URL, username & password. 5.) Have iTunes running to access Home Sharing of iTunes library within home network. 6.) Be able to utilize UPS software and shut down when UPS battery depletes (to prevent hard shutdowns from power losses). 7.) Be able to power/reboot from a remote location. 8.) Sync selected folders to a cloud drive &/or another NAS. 9.) Back up/copy all computer OS, programs, settings, etc. to store in a secure location/partition, etc in case needed to restore to a new drive. 10.) Weekly backup of all computers, keeping about 4 consecutive backups before the older one is deleted. 11.) Real time backup/sync (to use between backups to retrieve files if needed). Also, do you know if it's possible to somehow link/make a shortcut to other NAS's (ie: be able to link other NAS to be able to access them through this build as a link). Do you know if Xpenology (or even Synology) has any or even all of these capabilities. I'm wanting to transfer all files to a DIY NAS that I can expand/add drive space when finances permits, that has a 2 disc redundancy and files that I don't have on physical media that sync/backup to a cloud drive or to another NAS build. Currently I have these items for a DIY build: Fractal Design Node 804 case ASRock QC5000-ITX motherboard Startech.com PEXSAT34RH (RAID card) Silverstone Strider Essential 80 Plus Gold SST-ST50F-ESG power supply Thanks in advance.
