Olegin Posted February 17, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 17, 2019 (edited) Test stand: ASRock J4105-ITX, Crucial DDR4 so-DIMM RAM with 2400MHz CL17-CT4G4SFS824A 4GB, flash drive, 2.5 250GB hard drive. Prepared the flash drive as described here, installed the memory, connected the HDD and turned on the power. It worked without the BIOS reconfiguration. Скрытый текст Power consumption 10 watts, the folder /dev/dri is in place, installed the Video station, the codecs was activated. With transcoding 4K here is what I got: Скрытый текст Скрытый текст Скрытый текст Скрытый текст On four streams of transcoding consumption increased to 30 watts, the CPU radiator is noticeably hot, so who plans to use xpen in this mode-think about a good blowing the radiator. Installed VMM, ubuntu and virtual DSM worked fine, but it is better to add up to 8 GB of memory. Olegin Posted February 17, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted February 17, 2019 @JMRR Try a clean install on another HDD, it seems to me that the problems with the shutdown & reboot is not in 5005, but in 1.04. On 4105 all works fine after clean install. I tried to switch the hdd and flash drive from a working system and also got the problem with shutting down. Calvin Posted March 3, 2019 Share #7 Posted March 3, 2019 I'm using Asrock J4105-ITX, 32GB Kingston DDR4 2400, 4* 480GB SSD. It's run DSM 6.1.7 fine. But have issue on DSM+VMM+Win10. Cannot run/install win10. Anyone have same issue?

pmchan Posted March 7, 2019 Share #10 Posted March 7, 2019 (edited) Hi Olegin, thanks to your positive feedback I finally decided to go for the Asrock J4105 instead of a J4205, difference is, I bought the m-ATX model for its 3 pcie 2.0 x1 ports. That's a bit lame and I would have preferred they put at least one x8 or even x4, but this way I was able to add my 2 budget sata cards SI-PEX40064 and a dual nic HP nc360T. Migrated from my previous build, Q1900-itx DS918+ without too much hassles, HW transcoding is working great, shutdown and reboot too and consumption is lower by 8 watts in idle, nice bonus Installed your modified extra.lzma too, thanks again! Regarding HW transcoding, be sure to disable VT-D in Bios or it won't work, just a black screen when you hit play button, I learned it the hard way. JMRR Posted March 12, 2019 Share #12 Posted March 12, 2019 @Olegin did you configured anything on bios about graphics? On my instalation, codecs are active and /dev/dri as entries, but if i try to encode using vaapi, the output files are always only with sound. root@nas:~# ls -al /dev/dri total 0 drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 80 Feb 26 18:47 . drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 18900 Mar 9 22:57 .. crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 226, 0 Feb 26 18:47 card0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 226, 128 Feb 26 18:47 renderD128 Using ffmpeg from repo: /var/packages/ffmpeg/target/bin/ffmpeg -vaapi_device /dev/dri/renderD128 -i /volume1/downloads/twd.ts -vf 'format=nv12,hwupload,scale_vaapi=w=1920:h=1080' -sn -c:v h264_vaapi -qp 20 -bf 2 -c:a aac -tune zerolatency -f matroska /volume1/downloads/test3.mkv Using VideoStation ffmpeg /var/packages/VideoStation/target/bin/ffmpeg -vaapi_device /dev/dri/renderD128 -i /volume1/downloads/twd.ts -vf 'format=nv12,hwupload,scale_vaapi=w=1920:h=1080' -sn -c:v h264_vaapi -qp 20 -bf 2 -c:a aac -tune zerolatency -f matroska /volume1/downloads/test3.mkv Output in any case: Input #0, mpegts, from '/volume1/downloads/twd.ts': Duration: 00:42:00.56, start: 43931.504333, bitrate: 4841 kb/s Program 1 Metadata: service_name : FOX HD service_provider: SID FOX HD Stream #0:0[0x192d]: Video: h264 (Main) ([27][0][0][0] / 0x001B), yuv420p(tv, bt709, top first), 1920x1080 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 25 fps, 50 tbr, 90k tbn, 50 tbc Stream #0:1[0x192e](por): Audio: mp2 ([4][0][0][0] / 0x0004), 48000 Hz, stereo, s16p, 192 kb/s Stream mapping: Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (h264 (native) -> h264 (h264_vaapi)) Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (mp2 (native) -> aac (native)) Output #0, matroska, to '/volume1/downloads/test3.mkv': Metadata: encoder : Lavf58.20.100 Stream #0:0: Video: h264 (h264_vaapi) (High) (H264 / 0x34363248), vaapi_vld, 1920x1080 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], q=-1--1, 25 fps, 1k tbn, 25 tbc Metadata: encoder : Lavc58.35.100 h264_vaapi Stream #0:1(por): Audio: aac (LC) ([255][0][0][0] / 0x00FF), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 128 kb/s Metadata: encoder : Lavc58.35.100 aac frame= 2134 fps=142 q=-0.0 Lsize= 1395kB time=00:01:26.76 bitrate= 131.7kbits/s speed=5.76x video:0kB audio:1353kB subtitle:0kB other streams:0kB global headers:0kB muxing overhead: 3.088716% I think the device is present but not acessible. pmchan Posted March 13, 2019 Share #16 Posted March 13, 2019 VT-D has to be disabled on those motherboards or HW transcoding won't work, at least on my J4105m.

bibicu Posted September 3, 2019 Share #18 Posted September 3, 2019 (edited) Can someone be so kind and confirm if HW transcoding is still enabled on J4105/j5005 with DSM 6.2.2, Jun 1.04b and DS918+ ? Just check if there is something in /dev/dri For me, the i915 driver crashes during the boot so I had to use real3x extra.lzma which removes it, but then I don't have hw transcoding. @Olegin does not specify which version of DSM he was testing with, but I suspect it was an earlier version of DSM. Thank you Edited September 3, 2019 by bibicu
reworks Posted September 6, 2019 Share #19 Posted September 6, 2019 @ bibicu : Same thing for me, many try and no transcoding. no boot without real3x and no transcoding with
bibicu Posted September 6, 2019 Share #20 Posted September 6, 2019 @reworks: after many many hours spent trying stuff, I came to conclusion that HW transcoding only works in 6.2.1 with the original extra.lzma. In 6.2.2 it does not work. We may need to wait for Synology to release a Gemini Lake box to grab a newer i915 driver. @reworks: do you see Health disk information for the disks in STorage manager? I can't see (Access error) it with DS918

toyanucci Posted December 5, 2019 Share #24 Posted December 5, 2019 I ordered some parts to make a build using the Asrock J4105. Just waiting on the motherboard now which comes friday. I've made the usb so just to do the setup and I should be good to go. My question is this...is HW transcoding working with 6.2.2 with the 918+ serial number and mac addresses or should I just stick to 6.2.1? Just checking if there was any update on this. Thanks in advance!
