Freenas -> Xpenology! with AMD E-350 Board

Hi,

i successfully managed to install XPEnology on my old freenas machine.

I have got a AMD E-350 dual core processor, 8 gb ram and 5 sata drives attached to the mainboard (E35M1-M Pro).

 

I successfully installed with sata-mapping = 6  (my mistake), but only 4 disks are available. I stopped xpenology. updated the image to 5, reflashed the usb stick and rebooted the machine.

It said, it needs to recover, after that i still only got 4 drives. Any idea what i have to do?  Maybe a 41 sata mapping? I guess its just one controller, so i have to use 5.

Thx for this advice. I used my old freenas usb boot device and managed to open a shell.

it looks like its one controller with 5 sata i/o ports. Correct?

OK i have found a good documentation about the chipset, which mostly is on all E-350 mainboards.

2.5 Serial ATA Controller

 

The integrated Serial ATA controller processes host commands and transfers data between the host and Serial ATA devices. It supports six independent Serial ATA channels. Each channel has its own Serial ATA bus and supports one Serial ATA device. With respect to the transfer rate, the integrated SATA controller supports First generation (1.5 Gbit/s), Second generation (3.0 Gbit/s), and Third generation (6.0 Gbit/s) SATA ports. Figure 8 is a diagram for the SATA block.

 

The SATA controller can operate in three modes:

 

• All six channels are configured as SATA AHCI mode.

• All six channels are configured as IDE mode. In this configuration, the SATA controller is configured into two IDE controllers, with the programming interface of channel 0 to 3 under the first IDE controller, and that of channel 4 and 5 under the second IDE controller.

• Four channels (channel 0 to 3) are configured as SATA AHCI and two channels (channel 4 and 5) are configured as IDE mode. In this configuration, the programming interface of channel 4 and 5 are under the IDE controller.

 

 

I guess my config is the last one with 4 sata and 2 ide. Thats what matches with the devinfo output i have already posted.

 

I tried XPEnology with a 42 sata mapping, but i just recognized 4 disks again.

For other peoples with the same problem, thats how i found the solution:

 

I have corrected my bios settings to only use AHCI (mode 1)  and then set the sata port mapping to 6 (5 internal 1 eSATA port). It works.

Wanted to write the same, as it was running in IDE mode first. Thanks for sharing the information, I guess that will help some of use.
