cornekev Posted January 20, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 20, 2019 I just installed xpenology for the first time on an old PC. I can finally see the PC in synology assistant but the system can't see any of my HDD's. Is there something I have been missing?
0 cornekev Posted February 13, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted February 13, 2019 Apparently the unit updated by it self to 6.2 while I was at the door. So I unbricked it using the manual on the forum.
0 bearcat Posted January 21, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 21, 2019 1 - Are your HDD's set up as SATA - AHCI ?
0 cornekev Posted January 21, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted January 21, 2019 I can only select: Raid and non-raid in the bios. The non-raid is active.
0 bearcat Posted January 21, 2019 Share #5 Posted January 21, 2019 Do you know what SATA controller your mainboard is using? (or the make and model of the mb) Are your drives "clean" (=no filesystem)?
0 cornekev Posted January 21, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted January 21, 2019 Yes I cleaned the drives before I put them in. Tried formatting them, cleaning them with disk part,... The mb is: Asrock ALIVENF6G-GLAN, I don't really know what SATA controller.
0 bearcat Posted January 21, 2019 Share #7 Posted January 21, 2019 @cornekev if my Google skills are working correct, that mb might be using a nForce4 series sata controller, if so ... ******* out of luck as the say, that seems to be unsupported so if you want to use the mainboard, you will need to add a compatible disk controller. 0 cornekev Posted January 21, 2019 Author Share #8 Posted January 21, 2019 (edited) Tnx, good to know. I’ll try to ADD the compatibel disk controller. Can I find the list with compatibel disk controllers somewhere? Edited January 21, 2019 by cornekev
0 bearcat Posted January 22, 2019 Share #9 Posted January 22, 2019 (edited) @cornekev As stated by Polanskiman here : " Compatibility of hardware usually depends on the loader you are using and the modules it contains to boot the said hardware" But I have seen people mention (among others) SybaSI-PEX40062 and Asmedia ASM1061 based controllers. 0 cornekev Posted January 28, 2019 Author Share #10 Posted January 28, 2019 I installed an Asmedia ASM1061 based controller: I was able to log on to the synology assistant and install the software. Unfortunatly I can't access it anymore, the PC doesn't even have an IP-adress anymore. Does anyone have an idea how this is possible and what I can do about it? 0 bearcat Posted January 28, 2019 Share #11 Posted January 28, 2019 Let me guess, you updated to 6.2.1?
0 cornekev Posted January 28, 2019 Author Share #12 Posted January 28, 2019 No, I had seen that the 6.2.1 caused a lot of problems. But maybe it’s the same issue. Can I unbrick this? Does it update automaticly? I only clicked on the install button and than I had to answer the door, when I came back, the pc couldn’t find it anymore.
