0 bearcat Posted November 3, 2018 Share #7 Posted November 3, 2018 (edited) The "updated tutorial" is the one I was linking to, and it explains, step by. step, how to install. Since you are not updating anything, but doing a fresh clean install, your "work" starts at step 3 But DO read the complete thing, to get to know the basics "behind the screen". And pay closely attention to Note 1. Some questions to you: 1 - What bootimage did you download, and was it for 3615/3617/918/xxx? 2 - Did you edit the vid/pid/sn/mac before you wrote it to your usb drive? 3 - On what hardware are you trying to install it? 4 - What make/model is the NIC you are using? 5 - Why did you replace the extra ramdisk, and what file did you replace it with? 6 - What .PAT file did you install ? 7 - Did you install the .PAT automaticly or manual? 0 MCFLY78 Posted November 4, 2018 Author Share #8 Posted November 4, 2018 Hello , thanks for your help 1 - What bootimage did you download, and was it for 3615/3617/918/xxx? : 3615 2 - Did you edit the vid/pid/sn/mac before you wrote it to your usb drive? no because as i understand the edition of vid/pid/ is only for update 3 - On what hardware are you trying to install it? i am trying to install on two machines : Thincentre M81 Celeron and the other is an Athlon X2 4 - What make/model is the NIC you are using? DON T know what is NIC and where to find it on the machine 5 - Why did you replace the extra ramdisk, and what file did you replace it with? i thought i did but i have mounted once again the key and it was not replaced 6 - What .PAT file did you install ? i did not use any 7 - Did you install the .PAT automaticly or manual? i tried to find the machine on the network but no way hope it helps you .... regards Arnaud
0 bearcat Posted November 4, 2018 Share #9 Posted November 4, 2018 (edited) 1 - OK, but what is the name of the file you downloaded, and did you use a link from this forum? (1.0 2 - No, you HAVE to edit, even for fresh/clean install. 3 - The M8i should be ok, but AMD support is limited so your Athlon might be less "lucky", what is the mainboard used for it ? 4 - NIC = Network Interface Card, you find it just where your network cable connects 5 - Ok, as you have to find the computer before installing. 6 - Ok, as above. 7 - Have your tried searching this forum, or Google, if your hardware actually is compatible? Try the following: A - Download the "toolbox". B - Download Jun's loader v1.02b DS3615xs C - Download DSM 6.1.7 15284 (Chose .pat file for DS3615xs) D - Find MAC adress of your NIC, write it down. E - Using the "toolbox", find the vid/pid of your USB drive. F - Using the "toolbox", generate a serialnumber. G - Using the "toolbox", edit your grub.cfg with the above data: MAC, vid, pid, and Sn. before saving the changes to you bootimage. H - Using the "toolbox", write the edited file to your USB drive. I - Reboot your "NAS" from your freshly made USB bootdrive. J - Check your routers DHCP server if your "NAS" is getting an IP adress. K - Using the "toolbox", locate yoru "NAS" with Synology Assistant. L - Using the Synology Assistant, connect to your "NAS", then manually install the DSM_DS3615xs_15284.pat downloaded earlier. M - Reboot and enjoy ? Edited November 4, 2018 by bearcat
