Is your NIC an onboard device or a discrete card?

If it's onboard check your BIOS settings, some systems have WOL settings in the BIOS. If it's a discrete card sometimes they have a boot up firmware you can enter to configure various options, see if there is anything in there about WOL. Is your NIC even capable of doing WOL?

It is an onboard NIC from an HP N40L, with DSM 5.2 it was working fine and now with DSM 6.2 it won't work anymore.

Yep, you need to ensure your NIC is configured in the BIOS to support WOL.

You also need to use the MAC Address in your Grub.cfg (not the vanilla MAC of your NIC) and also make sure it's configured in the DSM to support WOL (under hardware and power).

Not sure what your previous configuration was for DSM5.2 but your new one uses the GRUB.cfg MAC address(es).. Try using those..

in my grub.cfg, i'd set the MAC address the same as the NIC's MAC address.

should i be doing something different?

thanks.
