sunny4422000 Posted October 2, 2019 Share #227 Posted October 2, 2019 Hi All I have followed the steps and was able to create 2 VM's with DSM on them successfully. now my plan is to create a High Availaibility between these two devices using High Availability Ad-on. so i have installed the high Availability Add-on on both these devices but when trying to create a cluster am getting an error mesg as per below "Unable to to Establish the cluster connection. This may happen because the cluster connection is not connected via a switch" My Ste up is as follows 2 nic's on both vms assigned static IP's n the same Vlan with the same Subnet mask Any idea what could be the issue here? thank you

sunny4422000 Posted October 2, 2019 Share #229 Posted October 2, 2019 ok i was able to create the cluster successfully. But after creating the cluster, nic 2 that is used for Heart Beat configuration is completely wiped off so in HA management windows, it's reporting the device as offline. Any idea what might be causing the issue? Note: Nic 2 (HA heartbeat) is on static IP. Thank you
jjlolo Posted October 4, 2019 Share #230 Posted October 4, 2019 (edited) Hi, long time synology user, first time xpenology user. I've just bought a gen8 hp microserver to install xpenology with a xeon processor and 16GB ram, an SSD installed in the optical bay, and 4 X 1TB HDD (that I am hoping to upgrade to 4X12 TB). I boot esxi from a USB stick. I initially tried installing the DS3617XSv1 XPenology_v5.ova that I found earlier in this thread, but but I get a message that no Hard disk is found on the DS3617xs I am now followed the instructions at the beginning of the thread and creating one from scratch. 1. For the first ready to go image the serial ports give me errors while editing the VM; Do I need those? 2. Any ideas on how to fix? Additional questions: a. What is the latest DSM version that's supported? b. Do I need an intel nic? c. Any issues with installing 4X12TB drives? Thanks! jjlolo Posted October 5, 2019 Share #231 Posted October 5, 2019 (edited) Update: So I finished the complete install on esxi 6.7u3 based on this tutorial of DS3617XS synoboot.img 1.03b and the VMDK 6.0.2 Jun's Mod V1.0 initially with 6.2 then I did a snapshot and upgraded to 6.2.2 I have this installed on an HP micro server Gen8 upgraded to a Xeon E3-1265L V2. Even though I don't have intel nics on the HP but via esxi everything seems to working fine. 1. Is there anything I should be upgrading to maintain stability? Do we need 1.04? I read somewhere that 3615 is more stable than 3617- is this true? Should I reinstall? 2. Let's say in the future I upgrade to 6.3 and it fails- Do I risk any data loss? i.e. Would performing a rollback on the snapshot be sufficient? Edited October 5, 2019 by jjlolo . bearcat Posted November 20, 2019 Share #234 Posted November 20, 2019 (edited) @Next Is it the initial installation of ESXi that don't find any network? If so, your NIC is not supported (out of the box) by ESXi, you will need to find compatible drivers, or a compatible NIC. flyride Posted December 13, 2019 Share #239 Posted December 13, 2019 FYI there is almost no overhead with RDMs and you get access to the entire disk, so it should be portable.
Tittan Posted January 6, 2020 Share #240 Posted January 6, 2020 Maybe this is some kind out of the topic but I lost some hours trying to make an ESXi 6.7 VM and when it's instaling the DSM is crashing on "Can't Format the Disk (35)" error. This happens because the XPEnology were booting up via Baremetal options. So if you want a VMWare VM you must comment out the "bare-metal" lines in grug.conf as said on the tutorial here. After that done, you end up with only one boot option and all goes nice. Hope this helps anyone.
diqipib Posted February 2, 2020 Share #241 Posted February 2, 2020 (edited) Good afternoon. Please tell me why during installation I constantly get an error of 13 Скрытый текст ? I try to install DSM 6.2.2 (tried with DSM_DS3615xs_23739.pat / DSM_DS3615xs_24922.pat) on ESXI 6.0. I searched in a subject and in the Internet. Everywhere they write that this is due to the incorrectly set VID and PID. But the topic header does not indicate a change in VID and PID, and in theory should they be set in the VMDK file? I upload it to ESXI without changes. But after starting the virtual machine, its contents are constantly changing! Namely, the CID and db.longContentID are changing. What am I doing wrong ? P.S That's what I see in changed vmdk: Скрытый текст Edited February 2, 2020 by diqipib

diqipib Posted February 3, 2020 Share #243 Posted February 3, 2020 (edited) @luchuma Thank's for the answer. 🙂 I checked my "pat" file md5. Redownloaded it again from server. As I see, it's md5 are equal. md5: 57748c2d9bed639403fca13de64eba03 *DSM_DS3615xs_23739.pat And as I see on server there is md5 for this file - https://archive.synology.com/download/DSM/release/6.2/23739/DSM_DS3615xs_23739.pat.md5 So my file "pat" file looks correct. Please, can You inform me what vm config should I show ? I have several files: Скрытый текст I attached XPEnology.vmx. If other files are required, please inform me. Emsdad Posted February 6, 2020 Share #247 Posted February 6, 2020 Hi all...I have an old xpenology system running DSM 5.2-5967 on a standalone esxi host. I've read through this thread and the tutorial on migrating from 5.2 to 6.1, but I'm so very confused on how to actually perform a migration on esxi. I have data and modules I'd like to preserve if at all possible, so I don't want to make a new VM and start from scratch. Is it possible to migrate? Sorry for the noob question!
