Multiple drive controller card question

Any issues with...

 

a)  Running 2 or more drive controller cards of the same type/model to increase drive capacity?

 

b)  Running 2 or more drive controller cards of different manufacturers/models?

 

My questions are assuming that the controller cards are compatible to begin with--just trying to understand if I can throw a few 8-port cards in to support a 16-bay case (assuming I make the appropriate config changes in the software to get past the 12 drive limit).

as long as the adequate modules are present in the loader to support the drive controllers.
