Thanks for the response - just trying it now but its not working as I need Custom Extras for a Quad Intel Nic card, get a boot loop if O try adding the extras from 6.1 loader.

Update - Tried with default extra file and it seems to be working :)

wher is the default extra file? ihave seen it being mentioned a couple of times. just can't seem to find it.

Hello everyone

N54L - 4gb ram - 4xHDD WD GREEN 2Tb

upgrade from 6.1 to 6.2 ok

but when I upgrade to 6.2.23739 if i try to update Synology application service, the file sharing fall down and the update don't run

i'm also unable to enter in the LAN SETTING MENU

Anyone know if i can manual update Synology application service?

918+ (1.03a2) doesn't show up on network in my test VM after applying 6.2.1. I attached serial log from the VM:
line 0-54 = normal boot with 6.2u2

line 59-468 = boot right after uploading .pat in DSM

line 468+ = another try, same error with mptspi (?)

It does not boot with either BIOS or UEFI. Don't take this as proof that the update doesn't work though, the VM only boots (with 6.2) with the baremetal option and only in BIOS mode. My baremetal install boots with UEFI just fine.

same behavior on my environment. I don't face any issues when booting 6.2, but after update with "DSM_DS3615xs_23824" I can't access the machine anymore via network.

After reset with a snapshot to  "DSM_DS3615xs_23739"  everything is fine again.

@AndreyATGB

change disks in your VM to

loader SATA 0:0

VMDK DSM disk SATA 1:0

so after adding new drivers for that stuff

mptspi

vmxnet3

and i gues other phisical HW for barebone install

loader could work with no problems or this could be only esxi problems ;]

yes loader 1.03b work on baremetal version.

Tried on Dell R2950 with TPlink TG-3468 network card.

Seen in synology assistant and i access web interface but loader doesn't recognize DSM 6.1 installed on My SSD on sata port...so impossible to update, to migrate or even to install on it.

i suppose sata driver is missing for me. i must wait update from JUN of his loader

Is the vid and pid in the grub.cfg important or used when running DSM on ESXi? If so what do you set it as?

Thanks

Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

Not if you use the ESXi option and boot from a virtual disk. The vid/pid only affect your ability to install AFAIK, if you get error during install you have to make sure they’re correct. Personally I ran it in VMs with both normal and ESXi boot options without touching vid or pid just fine.

Many thanks Jun, you are such a star!

I gave it a try on my N54L using ESXI 5.5. I change my boot image and the assistant found my NAS and suggested a repair. It restarted and came back. Then I tried an auto-update via DSM but the NAS didn't come back (Assistant was not finding it anymore). Then I put back my old boot image (1.02b) and I repaired again but DSM doesn't come back. Did I brick it? Can you help?

Thanks!

Thee bootimage gets updated to 6.2.1 on every reboot so a simple revert of it wont work. You either have to revert your systempartition (the disks with the data on) or do a downgrade. A simple way is described here https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/13074-dsm-621-23824-warning/?tab=comments#comment-95204 but it wont keep the settings

enjoy!

Hi Lootik,

Thank you Loogik, I tried your ova file, it works for me in VirtualBox.

I tried to do it myseft with boot loader 1.03b in VMware and VirtualBox but It doesn't work.  Can you tell me how to create synoboot.vmkd from synoboot.img, because I tried to convert it with StarWind V2V but it doesn't work, when I boot Synology, it gave me the wrong IP address.

Or  can you make a ova file for DS3617sx ?  because your first ova file is for DS3615sx.

Thank you very much

Thanks mate ; I should have read the big red announcement with the latest update...

So, I have my synoboot.img on my ESXI. I take it and replace the 3 files with the ones from the DSM_DS3615xs_23739.pat? Then boot on it and it should reinstall?

Edit: I tried that and it doesn't work. Note that my DSM_DS3615xs_23739.pat didn't contain the "extra" file. Any idea?

So I just spent 4 hours trying to get it back to work. I ended up trying something like

But I can't get my Syno to be on the network with 1.03b. I've just tried again:

  • 1.02b fresh image: I can find the NAS via Assistant
  • 1.03c fresh image: I can't find the NAS, even checked my rooter and it doesn't give it an IP. I checked the MAC matched on grub file and it does.

I am running ESXI 6 on an HP N54L. It's really odd as I had the feeling it worked on my very first attempt.

I am maybe doing something wrong but it seems that bootloader is not working on a setup like mine. I now have to reinstall 6.1... 😝

Extended explanation:

Assumption you have installed DS3617xs:

Replace your bootloader with DS3615xs 1.03b and start the NAS. Youll get the "migrate" screen. Migrate with clean install ("manuall install" with DS3615xs DSM 6.2 Image from Synology). You can interrupt the reboot afterwards and shutdown the vm. Now replace the bootloader with DS3617xs 1.03b and do a "migrate" again with clean install ("manuall install" with DS3617xs DSM 6.2 Image from Synology). Now you are back.

Actually I installed DS3615xs  initially.

But now my issue is that DS3615xs 1.03b won't get the network to work so I am definitely stuck ; even as a very fresh install without my data HDD plugged in.

I tried the DS3617xs 1.03b and same result, fresh install and nothing on the network. The boot looks like that:

Is it supposed to show more as the 1.02b used to? Like "booting kernerl..."?

Same with me on Dell Inspiron 3020 (Celeron G3220)

That's exactly where it freezes for me too.  I'm on a C2550D4I bare metal.

Thanks Jun

Updated from 6.1 to 6.2 successfully

System Info:

U-NAS-810 | Intel i7-3770S | Intel DQ77KB | 4 x Intel 530 SSD 240GB | LSI 9207-8i | 3 x Seagate IronWolf 10TB

New Bootloader 1.03b under EFI - did not work for me, no LAN detected.

- Had to Disabled EFI Boot in BIOS, both NICs detected in Legacy Mode.

However, my 3 drives on the LSI HBA Card got renumbered in DSM

- Previously, 3 drives on LSI HBA were Drives 5 - 7

- Now the 3 drives on LSI HBA are Drives 7 - 9

I've been mucking around on VMWare Workstation, trying to see if I could make any headway with either a 6.2 > 6.21 upgrade or just a fresh 6.2.1 upgrade.

No joy so far..

Question. Should DSM upgrades also modify the bootloader disk (or usb drive for bare metal installs)?

I assume so, because it breaks it..

If I upgrade the VM, it no longer gets an IP address. If I install fresh 6.2.1 it's also not on the network.

I then made the boot drive non-persistent (so changes are not retained), did the upgrade (after a reboot, I get no IP address as usual). If I power off and back on again to revert the changes to the boot drive, I get an IP address again - but the previous upgrade isn't recognised and I need to reinstall DSM..
