I'm doing a new build with a j1900 processor is it worth using 6.2 or 6.1, how stable is 6.2 at the moment?

i'd been using the asrock q1900 motherboard on 6.1 (baremetal) for about a year.  earlier this week i upgraded to 6.2 with the 1.03b loader (after doing a hyper backup to an external drive).

i also expanded my SHR pool from four WD red 3TB to five.  no issues thus far.

Thanks for the response - just trying it now but its not working as I need Custom Extras for a Quad Intel Nic card, get a boot loop if O try adding the extras from 6.1 loader.

Update - Tried with default extra file and it seems to be working :)

It works for me . Install it under Linux kvm with Xeon(R) CPU E31220L

- Create a dummy kvm host

- Remove all the device  (add back once next step is done)

- Edit the xml and change the chipset to Q35   like "<type arch='x86_64' machine='pc-q35-bionic'>hvm</type>"

- Add the img as usb disk (boot)

- Add a data disk  (sata)

- Boot up the host , till you see the "Screen will stop updating ...."

- Use the "find synology tool"  to search for the new host (for some reason, I am not able to find it via http://find.sy..com )

Able to install the package via  web download  (DSM 6.2-23739) and reboot also without problem,

Thank Jun for providing such a fun  tool to play with ..

I did it.... from DSM 6.1 to 6.2 AND at same moment I changed with migration option from (older model) DS3615xs to (newer model) DS918+ (baremetal).....

Update succesful

...........

Everything migrated from 3615xs to 918+ : all datas, all users, all packages (except "...stat.." (?), I don´t remember the name, cause i didn´t use it often).......................

I remebered the Tool that didnt migrate/run after upgrading from DSM 6.1 to 6.2: "DarkStat"

I tried the 1.03b loader on a baremetal ASUS AMD E35M1-I and the result is unsuccessful. Loader 1.02b works fine with DSM 6.1 on this board.

GRUB loads OK but DSM is never loaded.

It is my impression that this is related to the UEFI issue that Jun mentioned that needs to be fixed. This motherboard has a limited EFI BIOS and there is no option to set CSM as "enabled" (I had to enable CSM in another board to successfully load DSM 6.2 with loaded 1.03b).

Hello,

I migrated a HP microserver NL54 baremetal from 6.1 to 6.2 (3615), at the beginning all seems working ok, i can connect to the web ui, open file station, etc, but after few seconds (about 60secs) all services stopped, no lan interface is listed but i can get it with the ifconfig command. If i try to open the resource monitor i get a "Connection Error".

Any idea about what is going wrong?

Thanks

@Benoire : any special reason you want a "new" bootloader, instead of using the ds3617xs loader?

hint

Unless its changed, the loader is simply a way to get the DSM version running on your own hardware.  The 361x versions are 12 bay devices and will always update like that unless there is something in the loader like the 918+ does to get it to 12 bays.  If you expand, via the config, the bays to 16 the config will always be overwritten on an upgrade and drop back to 12 and if you have more than 12 disks it will cause array issues as it won't load all disks.  I was rather hoping that instead of this constant editing of the config we could have another image based on the 16 bay devices; this could either be a 16 bay 361x vesion or the true synology ones.

Yes, perhaps I'm being lazy but I also don't want to put my array at risk on updates beyond what I normally have with the loaders.

Same in may case with 1.03b and DSM 6.1 loaded.

My HP 8200 EliteDesk BIOS also has no CSM settings ... However ver. 1.02b works just fine.

And I don't want to upgrade to 6.2 before loader works.

Any other suggestions?

Does loader 1.03b work with DSM 6.1 or is it just for 6.2?

I can't get this new loader to actually work under VMWare Workstation Pro 12.

It just boots to the network, if I go to the boot menu and select the CD/DVD ROM drive nothing happens?

And I doing anything wrong? Happily running XPEnoboot for DSM 5.2

Did you define the vmdk's as sata disks?

What VMDK? it didn't come with one? all I got was a synoboot.img file and it doesn't get to a bootloader at all! I must've gotten the baremetal install one, I guess? is there a specific version for VMWare? Looks like i'm doing something seriously wrong here

Downloaded the Synoboot_3615. zip file from:

I followed this tutorial initially, but I didn't think to try fudge in the new Synoboot.img file.

Worked wonderfully as soon as I did.

Thank you

the vmdk just refers to the synoboot.img file. all you need to do is choose "sata" when adding the synoboot.vmdk disk

Unsuccessful on Asrock J3455M, the micro-atx version.  6.1 works  perfectly on this board. I suspect it's an issue with the onboard NIC. It looks like it boots up but the NIC doesn't initialize (light doesn't turn green).

From other's posts, it sounds like the itx version works just fine.

I tried using an  intel NIC (Intel(R) Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter), that also did not work.

Since I can't edit my previous post, I can say that my installation was a complete success (see my post page 13). After backing up my files and blowing away dsm 6.01 on the disks, 6.2 installed happily, and I didn't have any issues setting my "Diskstation" back up, except having to ssh in and enable SHR again thru vi.

Thanks once again Jun, your a legend!

918+ (1.03a2) doesn't show up on network in my test VM after applying 6.2.1. I attached serial log from the VM:
line 0-54 = normal boot with 6.2u2

line 59-468 = boot right after uploading .pat in DSM

line 468+ = another try, same error with mptspi (?)

It does not boot with either BIOS or UEFI. Don't take this as proof that the update doesn't work though, the VM only boots (with 6.2) with the baremetal option and only in BIOS mode. My baremetal install boots with UEFI just fine.

Hi,

Made the USB drive 1.03B but when booting I can't find the Synology looks like no network connection.

Somebody have a solution for it? Its a baremetal Synology.

Same here. DS3615xs Xpenology runs without problems at 1.02b loader but as soon as I boot the 1.03 Loader with identical settings (Serial, Mac address), I can't find it in my network.
Use a Gigabyte H97N with GbE Intel and Atheros LAN. Are there no drivers for the LAN adapters yet?

Maybe someone can help me. I have one successful install using 1.03b and is currently running the most update version of DSM. This is on a Dell r510 baremetal install my other R510 will not work with loader 1.03b. of course i changed the mac addresses and installed a new serial # for the 2nd 510 as well. The only hardware difference in different size ram. One ( the working one) has 24gb of memory and the other has 32. also the working one is using a h200 raid card flashed in IT mode where the none working is using a H700 unknown FW version.

Not sure if this helps but I'm noticing my nics are blinking and registering they have connection to my network but i can not find the Mac address on my router to pull a IP.

Try adding a Intel Dual lan card, that worked for me on my Dell R410.  It's  a driver issue till they add the extra.lzma .
