No, there is no need to change the CPU if you use the DS3615xs loader.

👍

MANY MANY MANY thanks sadycus

yesterday i have receive my network card from amazon, i plug it into my microserver gen8, disabled integrated network, and i have update successfully from dsm 6.1 to 6.2.1 U6 !

PERFECT !

just a little problem, HP-AMS no more working

ash-4.3# /sbin/amsHelper -I0 -M1,5,14,16,18,23,99
This program requires the host to have a HP Integrated Lights Out 4 (iLO 4) BMC

i have ilo firmware 2.61 (the last one)

Does anyone have success use hp-AMS on DSM 6.2.1 u6?

Regards.

Does anyone know how to make it that the grub menu always boots to the baremetal build option and not anything else? I am unable to reboot the NAS box remotely as when it reboots it will try and run a different option in the GRUB menu.

You can either comment out or delete the unwanted entries.

That is odd. Normally the loader remembers the last option that was selected.

How do you comment it out or delete it?

Commenting out code means rendering the code inactive. In this case adding a hash sign (#) in front of the unwanted line(s) will render the code inert.

Deleting simply means deleting the unwanted entry (code). Not sure how to say it otherwise.

I recommend commenting out rather than deleting in case you want to revert.

you have 2 options

- mount your loader like you did first time, edit grub and comment the entries you dont want, reflash pen drive and boot like a new instalation;

- the second option is editing on running machine:

access your mounted path, edit grub and comment out the line you dont want.

There’s your problem. DS918+ is Haswell or newer, you can’t use it with your CPU.

Tried two separate real SN/MACs on my 1220v3, 3 different USBs with correct vid/pid without success, error 13. Not sure about the minimum haswell recommendation around here but it didn't work on mine

Error 13 occurs in most cases if you specify VID/PID incorrectly. Probably forgot to specify 0x before them.

Hi All

I recently built a new Xpenology NAS using the following HW:

Supermicro A2SDi-H-TF mini itx motherboard that has an intel atom SOC C3758 cpu

Intel SOC C3000 integrated 2 10gbe copper ports X553

SOC controller for 12 sata ports, 4 x sata3 and 2 x mini-sas

8gb ecc ram

Intel optane 800p m2 nvme

Unas 810 case modified to house icy dock 4 bay ssd unit

Seasonic 250W 1U psu

2 x 500gb ssd

2 x 1000gb ssd

8 x 4tb 3.5"

I have been using Xpenology as my NAS OS for 5 yrs and am acustomed to installing it bare metal on HP microservers and also ESXi VM.

I decided to try ds918+ as I want to use caching. I am using a samsung usb 3 fit drive for boot.

The install gets to Jun's happy hacking message but the nic does not get IP and the NAS cannot be found on the network either by web finder or synology tool.

Variations I have tried:

ds3615 loader 103b

ds3617 loader 103b

ds918+ loader 3a plus extra.izma found on the forum

ds918+ loader 104b

ds3615 loader 102b

I have disabled c states in bios and have also tried a usb 2 toshiba thumb drive.

In each and every case the result is the same, happy hacking message and then nothing further, no network.

I have managed to succesfully install latest freenas (this was my alternate OS) and verified that all my NAS HW workss correctly, so I don't have a fault with my HW or usb drive as it all works in freenas.

I never had any issues on microserver and am at a loss as to why I cannot get a network as the intel igbe driver supports my nic and is available in expenology standard extra.izma according to this forum.

Can anyone help?

Im 100% positive the 0x was in front and the vid/pid were correct on several usb sticks.. Notepad++ used as well

Error 13 means that the DSM installator can't create or write to the system partition. May be some  troubles with hdd?

Ok I have searched thru the threads and find that my motherboard should be fully supported according to IG-88 where he responded to a request to provide the nic driver. The actual nic chip is x557 (I got it wrong in my last post) and is part of the ixgbe.ko driver in IG-88's extra.izma which I have already tried.

So the only thing I can think of is a kernel panic is occuring, possibly related to the i915 driver maybe as my cpu has no integrated gpu, plus I am also booting in legacy mode so that the thumb drive will boot.

Can the i915 be disabled?

it's maybe a stretch to say I'm using a similar board (Supermicro AS2Di-4C-HLN4F: Intel SOC C3000, X553)

but I had to disable VT-d Interrupt remapping in the BIOS to get DS3615 loader 1.02b running (with the extra.lzma for X553).

No luck yet with any of the newer loaders though.

I've just updated from 1.02b (3615) to 1.04b (918) and I'm having some huge problems.. I'm running on baremetal (AsrockRack e3c226d2i), I've installed the PAT for 6.2.2 and did a migration, everything starts fine, I can log into DSM, everything looks good but after a minute or so, all packages are stopping and I can't connect to dsm anymore.. Any ideas? Please help...

EDIT: I can still SSH to the server and some services still seem to be running, but no DSM  webfrontend and almost all packages are stopped

Strange things are happening here.. I just rebooted a couple of times and freed up some space in /dev/md0 and now everything seems to work.. Oh and I've also read about an old /.xpenoboot folder that causes problems, so I deleted and before the last reboot. But I'm still not sure if everything is fine now.. Here are the lines in dmesg after the last reboot:

it's maybe a stretch to say I'm using a similar board (Supermicro AS2Di-4C-HLN4F: Intel SOC C3000, X553)

but I had to disable VT-d Interrupt remapping in the BIOS to get DS3615 loader 1.02b running (with the extra.lzma for X553).

No luck yet with any of the newer loaders though.

Cheers for letting me know, I had disabled vt-d in bios previously.

I think your board has 4 x 1gbe nic ports and these should be recognized by the 1.04 loader natively or older loader with extra.izma as you have found out and installed. My board only has 2 x 10gbe copper nic ports and I think these require a higher driver revision than what is in the latest loader, as well as the extra.izma.

I don't think kernel panic is occuring or the i915 is problematic, I think the install is occurring fine just no nic driver working. I may try and get a usb to ehternet adaptor and try.

Unfortunately, I've been having the same results with 1.04 (with extra.lzma) and 1.03 (with extra.lzma).

I'm just hoping a new loader will be released in the future for DS3615xs containing the 6.2.1 drivers. According to this post the drivers I need are natively supported from then on.

So, everything seems to run flawlessly now after deleting /.xpenoboot and doing a reboot.. But maybe someone has a solution to another problem I had/have: After flashing Jun's loader to a USB stick with Win32 DiskImager I can never overwrite it again, because it reports as write protected. I had this same issue with 1.02b and now again with 1.04b. Is there any solution to this? Not that USB sticks are that expensive anymore, but it's pretty inconvenient to always have to buy new ones.
